    The hype around Star Wars: The Force Awakens has predictably reheated old nostalgia for earlier installments of the franchise, spurring one fan into giving the trailer to The Empire Strikes Back a modern day do-over.

    Overlaying footage of the second Star Wars film onto the soundtrack of The Force Awakens trailer, this contemporary update shows how much trailers have changed over the past 30-odd years. While the original trailer was fast-paced and almost felt like an elevator pitch to potential viewers, this one is slower and more brooding, being a narrative in itself.

    Interesting... interesting... I do think it illustrates how trailers have changed, or tend to go through eras themselves. I had my teen years the 90s for instance, and if you compare the original ESB trailer to an elevator pitch I'd say most trailers from the 90s -- the one for Jurassic Park for example -- look like commercials for TV movies rather than the awesome films they are.

    I do think the modernized trailer might reveal a few things it shouldn't have though, like Force Ghost Obi-Wan (pretty sure he wasn't in that original you linked). At the same time, it was interesting seeing it and how fresh everything looked simply with a different format and music... Granted, I'm sure the footage is from the graphical cleaned blu-rays, but I've already seen those blu-rays countless times and still this felt fresh.

    oh man the feels! It brought a few tears to my eyes. This was awesome. Now it makes me want to watch the TFA trailer! :)

    I just saw this and the other two you posted, and it's all brilliant.

    Unless my soundcard is a little off, I only wish the dialogue was mixed in a little more prominently.

    But, wow, those images, the memories, and, oh, that perfect music.
