Luke is on a quest searching for the First Jedi Temple. We do not truly know if he found it. However, one of the rumors is that Rey will help Luke find the first temple. When Luke finds the temple,

Why do you think he's looking for the first temple?
What do you think he will find?

I hadn't heard that rumor. But one might assume that if you find both the first of something and the last of something, you get a fuller picture of its evolution. If Luke is trying to figure out the nature of the Force and the Jedi, he might need more than one frame of reference.

Perhaps THATS the look he is giving Rey. "I can't go with you to fight, I'm beyond that now. Those things are trivial, fleeting, I am becoming one with the force, that is all that matters." And then the KOR show up and it all goes to hell.

    Jeeezzzz... 11 more months....

Maybe a sort of pandora's box kind of thing/ark of the covenant style and when they open it, they unleash something even more evil.

I thought that the map that Lor San Tekka gave to Poe was the map to the First Jedi Temple and that it was assumed (correctly) that Luke would be located at the First Temple.

However, Luke may have discovered at the temple that the Jedi were initially more like the Bendu.

Seriously, they'd better not kill Luke off until episode 9 at least (hopefully not at all) would be nice to see him mysteriously wonder off when everything's over, like Gandalf or something..

My prediction...Snoke will be revealed to be 'The Last Jedi' of a bygone era. I don't have much clear evidence to back this up, but here goes.

    1. The logo just jumps out as being strange. While the easy answer at this point is to say Luke is the 'The Last Jedi' and him being surrounded by red colors is foreshadowing that 'The Last Jedi' is in danger, I also feel this could be depicting something much more beneath the surface. Could 'The Last Jedi' refer to an ancient dark side user who was once a Jedi and wiped out the entire order millennia ago?

    2. Luke went searching for the 1st Jedi Temple. Something triggered him to do this, and while we don't know exactly what that is yet, but we could reasonabley assume that whatever he went looking for is linked to past events that transpired. The first Jedi Temple would have to be ancient in Star Wars terms. Also, we do not know if he found it yet.

    3. If you've been reading the 'Aftermath' books, then you know there is something up on Jakku years before The Force Awakens takes place. Palpatine is aware of some 'dark side energy' buried there beneath the surface. Some have speculated that this energy could be Snoke himself.

    4. We hardly know anything at all about Snoke, aside from the fact that he is aware of Vader saving Luke's life out of love and considers this the downfall of the Sith Empire. But aside from trying to stop the Resistance from finding Luke, we don't yet know his motivations, where he comes from, and the full extent of his powers.

In summary, while this is refutable evidence, I do believe there is more to the title than just a simple reference to Luke and/or Rey being the Last Jedi. I'm sure in some part that it refers to that, but titles can have multiple meanings. I am speculating that at some point in TLJ, Luke will deliver a backstory to Rey about Snoke, maybe similar to how the Deathly Hallows were explained in the Harry Potter movies (with animation). I would not be surprised if Luke had learned that Snoke is an ancient being of the original Jedi Order who turned on them and wiped them all out.

How he gets trapped and stayed alive under the surface of the planet Jakku remains a mystery to me, but just having fun speculating.
