Anyway here is my count so far :
2 Themes for Kylo: a nervous 8 note ostinato figure similar to the imperial march and the huge descending fanfare. ( f.e. end credits at 4:25 following ).
2 connected themes for Rey ( the "leaping" ostinato figure and the sweeping one harmonically similar to the force theme ) (f.e. everywhere )
1 for Finn ( 1:11 in Follow Me or 5:06 in the end credits )
1 for Poe / Flying ( 1:18 in I can Fly Anything or 5:24 in the end credits )
    1 Resistance
    1 Jedi (?) / Temple

Plus thematic ideas that have no chance to reintroduce themselves ( yet ? ) f.e. Snoke or Han's sorrow

I totally agree with OP. This is the first SW movie that the music didn't blow me away. Do you all think just not being the LSO is the reason or is John finally just to old?

It has nothing to do with the LSO. Again, how would that affect the compositions?

I felt a little underwhelmed after my first time watching the movie. The soundtrack grew on me the second time around to the point where I've been listening online. I think music and movie are integrated very tightly... perhaps more so than in the prequels (and I love the prequel music). It's not as in-your-face, and once I got used to that I really loved it.

Could it be fair to say that in the prequels Williams was literally tasked to do anything in his power to make a blank sheet resonate somehow?
Actually large parts of the prequel soundtracks sound like mini tone poems rather than film score because almost nothing hinges them to the narrative.
Compare the ANH / ESB scores to the prequels or even ROTJ in that regard.

I don't think its either. I think that because of the visuals and story, the music gets buried, but deep in there are some amazing john Williams writing. (Rey's theme, which is deeply stuck in my head) (Jedi Steps) (The ways of the force) to name a few.

Now for the OP, your theory about the soundtrack is beyond ridiculous. Honestly, its starting to sound like you are just posting things you didn't like just so you can tell everyone about how much you hated it, and doesn't "understand" why everyone loved it.
