Four days ago? I was so wrapped up in Star Wars news I missed this.

What an amazing talent that guy was. Lord of the Rings was monumental, but for me his work on Babe was just achingly gorgeous. Paintings from a children's book brought to life. So warm and full of happiness.

I had a secret hope that he'd shoot a Yoda anthology film. I always thought he'd know how to shoot that story from his perspective. Maybe because of the whole Hobbit thing... or maybe because he was intensely, singularly talented.

Maybe I'll find time to watch Fellowship of the Ring soon. This makes me sad.

I liked your post, but I don't LIKE your post. Lesnie made everything he touched turn to gold. I never saw anything he shot that wasn't completely and awe inspiring beautiful. I loved hi work on Babe before I even knew what or who it was that was making me love it. And the LotR movies success owes an immense amount to his photography and his ability to make it look both realistic and fantastic at the same time.

I'm saddened that we'll never get any more work from him, but what he put out during his short time was wonderful.
