Update! ABC News: Lucasfilm States Multiple Films Still in Development

I don't understand any of this, nor do I want to. Mos Eisley Spaceport film, Obi-wan one-off being cancelled and not cancelled.

I don't want to be rude, but I don't see the relevance of a Galaxy Quest script being decided, to a connected SW IP.

If the earlier report was simply inaccurate and they do still have films in development, then fine. That's simply bad rumor-mongering and they weren't deciding on-the-fly whether or not to scrap an entire part of their forward plan (ancillary films). If they did, that would show they don't have a full plan going forward, but are still deciding on what they want to do beyond "make movies that make money and hope for the best."

We'll see what happens, and it may all hinge on these two trilogies planned,if they connect in any way. If they are simply stand-alone trilogies and end when they end, then it would appear there was no complex plan going forward, except to just make good things and count bills.

 

Maybe I'm misreading this, but didn't the original Collider report say that the spin-offs are on hold, but the Johnson Trilogy and the GoT guys thing is still on? And isn't this big ABC update just telling us that the Johnson Trilogy and the GoT guys thing is still on? What's the big conflict here?

 

I would say if they are cancelled it isnt because they are bad, it is because they couldnt come up with a viable story to tell. I am sure several Star Wars film ideas have been cancelled since Disney bought LFL. They just get killed before they really get going.

 

The spin-offs are apparently still on just being developed separately. So "on hold" doesn't sound like it was a thing

Even good movies can be canned in developmental stages and even movies canned in the developmental stages can get made.
It's anecdotal about how this happens fairly regularly but people are having ridiculous spasms because Star Wars.

 

It was just an example of how radical the shift can be in the plans.
One moment that script was under lock and key and the film in dev.
The next discarded and marked cancelled on every page and allowed out of the company; in the trash.
The next, under lock and key again.

This time from Hollywood Reporter. Long story short - there will be some changes to spin-offs, RJ's trilogy and B&W films are still being created at their own pace.

 

I think it's fair for people to be commenting on it, and unfair to call people's reaction ridiculous spasms. We aren't talking about a stack of proposed scripts for one-off films nobody would even know existed if they were shelved, it's a multi-billion dollar IP that they have a lot of plans for going forward, and that they've announced titles for. So we know what they are planning, and if the plans change radically from one month to the next, it does appear that there was no plan to begin with. And wouldn't everybody here prefer they have a plan for Star Wars rather than not? A bold vision, rather than a wing and a prayer?

 

Literally no film made it past "Hey we've talked to a few guys about it" and people are acting like Lucasfilm is tearing apart at the seams.
That's pretty spastic.
