UPDATE! Star Wars: Hunters Could Be Delayed to 2024

Once again, it seems that the Nintendo Switch and mobile game Star Wars: Hunters, which was originally scheduled to release in 2021, will be delayed to 2024.



Guided News reports that publisher Take Two Interactive's latest earnings call has stated that the Zynga-developed Star Wars: Hunters will be formally released in the 'late fiscal year 2024' period. (Take Two Interactive spoke positively of their partnership with Zynga, indicating that the partnership has been beneficial and will likely continue.)



While that sounds bad for people who have been waiting patiently for the player-versus-player arena battle title set in the galaxy far, far away, the good news is that 'late fiscal year 2024' is most likely referring to the period between January and March of that year, as Take Two Interactive referred to the beginning of the 2024 fiscal year as April 2023. As of 2022, the game has soft-launched in certain regions around the world, with the title receiving multiple updates over that period of time.

Since the original publication of Guided News' report, notable Star Wars gaming content creator Azzatru has taken to Reddit to clarify that Take Two Interactive actually said 'later fiscal year 2024' versus 'late' during their earnings call, implying that Star Wars: Hunters could still release in full late 2023. First announced during a Nintendo Direct presentation with a short teaser trailer, Star Wars: Hunters was originally set to release by the end of 2021, but the title was first delayed to 2022, then delayed to 2023, and now it has been delayed to early 2024. A cinematic trailer and a gameplay trailer were both released in 2021, but no formal trailers have been released for the game for nearly two years.



The title explores the period shortly after the events of Return of the Jedi, relatively close to the start of The Mandalorian in terms of the overall narrative of the Star Wars franchise. The tie-in novel Battle for the Arena has been released, which would have more closely coincided with the planned release date for the video game (had there not been delays), exploring the backstories of various playable characters. The game allows you to play a variety of bounty hunters, each with their own unique sets of abilities, as all compete to assert dominance in the arena.



Star Wars: Hunters has soft-launched in certain markets and will see a formal wide release in 2024, barring the possibility of additional delays.
