Something is going on with Lando. That much has been clear for a long time, even after Kathleen Kennedy and Donald Glover insisted in the spring of 2022, a year and a half after the Disney Plus series was announced, that it was time to go back to it. Reports surfaced earlier this year that Justin Simien was no longer attached as showrunner, and that lead actor Donald Glover would be taking over writing duties along with his brother, Stephen Glover. Now, Glover said in a new interview that Lando is no longer a series for Disney Plus -- it's actually a movie.

Speaking on Pablo Torres Finds Out, Stephen Glover was asked about the Lando series for the first time since reports of his boarding the project earlier this summer. He said the following:

The host acted like this was the Glovers' idea and they hadn't consulted with Lucasfilm on it, but that's definitely not the case. From all the reports, the Glovers have been developing the project for a while, possibly a year by now (minus the four months the strike has been going on), and while the idea of turning it into a movie was maybe not their pitch when Simien left, I doubt this was something they thought of and didn't consult with the company.

Glover's joke about the strike is probably about Lucasfilm possibly having changed their minds over the four months of labor stoppage -- because of it, they haven't been able to communicate with the studio, so if Kathleen Kennedy wants to go back to the Disney Plus format, they wouldn't know about it. Not that this has happened, of course, but there was a bit of a disconnect between the two in the conversation there.

There are so many questions about this, though, and in usual Lucasfilm fashion, the story behind the making of the project will be far more fascinating than whatever the creators come up with. But how many movies does the company want in some sort of development before they actually put one out into the world? If Lucasfilm indeed wanted this to be a movie on May 1 (the day before the writers' strike), that's six titles they were developing for the big screen (and only three dates announced before January 2028): Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's New Jedi Order film, Dave Filoni's New Republic era film, James Mangold's Dawn of the Jedi film, Taika Waititi's untitled project, Shawn Levy's untitled project, and now Lando (taking the educated guess that this would not be a movie for Disney Plus).

    Update:

Just moments after we published the article we received confirmation from one of our sources that Lando is indeed going to be a movie.

They seem to have learned their lesson with the Kenobi series, which should have been a movie as well.

I'm kinda excited about this news. Lando could work great as a movie.
