In the aftermath of the success of their film, which earned seven Academy Awards -- including Best Director and Best Picture -- this month, Everything Everywhere All At Once directors, Daniel Kwan and Daniel Scheinert, commonly referred to as “The Daniels”, are rumored to be directing an episode of Skeleton Crew, according to sources over at One Take News. When asked about the rumor, Lucasfilm declined to comment. A representative of The Daniels did not immediately respond for comment.

UPDATE #2:] Daniel Kwan has now confirmed via Instagram (@dunkwun) that they're indeed directing an episode of the Jon Watts-captained series. He also went on to explain they were approached before Everything Everywhere All At Once even came out. Check out the original post below:

Little is known about the series so far, besides that it will revolve around a group of kids who get lost in wild space, and that it will take place during the timeline of The Mandalorian. In fact, Jon Favreau has even hinted that characters from the series will be appearing in The Mandalorian season 4, which could be shooting this year. Skeleton Crew filmed in Manhattan Beach, Los Angeles, from July 2022 to January 2023, sharing the lot, and at times even the soundstage, with Ahsoka.

Skeleton Crew has been described as having an Amblin-esque tone, with Goonies or Stranger Things being thrown around as points of reference. Jude Law will play the male lead. We received a brief image of Law in Skeleton Crew as part of the 2023 Disney Plus preview back in September.

It’s not unusual for Lucasfilm to act as proving ground for upcoming or talked-about Hollywood talent, such as Favreau curating a group of directors for season 1 of The Mandalorian, including Rick Famuyiwa after the successful release of his movie Dope. Kathleen Kennedy also signed on popular directors for potential movies, such as Patty Jenkins in the wake of Wonder Woman and Taika Waititi in the wake of Thor: Ragnarok and Jojo Rabbit (as well as his previous successful experience directing an episode on The Mandalorian season 1, released shortly after Jojo Rabbit), just to name a few.

I do think the style of Everything Everywhere All At Once lends itself to Star Wars storytelling with its combination of the sincere and the silly. And certainly, it's easier to sign on new directing talent to a commitment of only a single episode of a TV series than for an entire movie. This sandbox is the perfect space for both Lucasfilm and The Daniels to see if they have any creative chemistry together.

We expect we’ll hear more about Skeleton Crew at Celebration in just a few weeks. For now, Skeleton Crew is anticipated to release later this year on Disney Plus. Check out the full original report here.

I was initially taken aback by the headline that 'The Daniels' would direct an episode of Skeleton Crew. The first season has already been shot!

But in the SWNN article above, the directors themselves confirmed they directed the episode BEFORE their Oscar-winning film ever came out.

I am SO VERY happy with this news! Not only is it a built-in Oscar pedigree for a SW Series, but one of the Daniels, Daniel Scheinert, is from my hometown.
    Birmingham, Alabama represent!!
