Was there a table read for Episode VIII like TFA?

I never heard anything about this if there was one or not.

For people familiar with the film business, is it normal for direct sequels not to have table read beforehand?

there is probably always a table read ~ they just aren't typically announced or promoted in any way.

the TFA table read was extraordinary because it was the first, it once again brought together Ford, Fisher, and Hamill, and because Disney/Lucasfilm wanted to make a big market/buzz push right out of the gate.
they don't need any of that with the sequel, though they may eventually release pictures or information if it's interesting enough.

Didn't Andy Serkis say that he hadn't even read the script yet? That was a few weeks ago, but it doesn't look like they'd do another high profile table read again. Also, Rian Johnson started filming before TFA came out. Which mean Daisy Ridley and Mark Hamill saw a portion of the script sometime last year. Most likely before the rest of the cast.

it's always possible that schedules might preclude full-cast a table read ~ there's that too.
given that it is a sequel and the actors now all know each other, it might be less critical to have them all in one place for a run-through.

or maybe it's not standard for Johnson in particular. who knows. there are definitely no set rules for any of this.
a director may want a read-through of principal characters and not the supporting cast, or cast members with only a handful of lines.

and no one wants to hear the fishy-eyed toilet monster talk anyway [snert].

Ridley said last year well before VII came out that she already read the VIII script (its then current version).

I think table reads are pretty common, no? I just want to know if Del Toro was present or if they did it with just returning cast...
