SPECULATION What If Luke Skywalker "Became" the New Boba Fett?

There have been musings from George Lucas that Boba Fett lives after the Sarlacc Pit. There has also been speculation that Boba Fett would become a mantle, like the Dread Pirate Roberts. We also have the rumored plot revolving around Luke Skywalker gone missing for the last 10 years. Some have even speculated that Luke could have gone "Batman" vigilante, working undercover and outside the umbrella of the New Republic or Resistance to fight the forces of evil, kind of hiding in plain sight, so to speak. So... why not both?

How would Luke Skywalker hide his identity if he was actively involved in undermining the bad guys without being directly, and obviously, aligned with the good guys? What if Luke Skywalker became the new Boba Fett?

For me, this would be a pretty satisfying turn of events. It would arguably redeem the horribly simple and, quite frankly, comical death of Boba Fett at the Sarlacc Pit, while also increasing his "badassedness" .... I highly suspect that Disney has been trying to figure out how to make Boba Fett a compelling protagonist, so what better way would there be for doing that than having his mantle taken up by one of, if not the, greatest Jedi of all time hiding in plain sight under Mandalorian armor? Mind you, I have no disillusionment that this is what will actually happen (IT WILL NOT), especially in light of the rumored plot as we understand it, but I thought it was an interesting idea, at least, for discussion. Thanks to @MarsPhoenix's old post in the "Does Luke Have a Ship?" thread for the inspiration, where he suggested that it would be cool if Luke now flew the old Slave 1...

Okay, JJ, we're going to need a trailer right about now. People are going crazy ;)

Original idea to say the least, but I strongly doubt we will see it pan out

It is probable, on the other hand, that C-3P0 gets a hold of Boba's armor and turns into a feared bounty hunter named IG-89

True, it is a crazy idea... so why not blame it on no trailer! ;)

I thought I was pretty clear, but for absolute clarity: I do not think anything like this can happen... I have posted a few out there concepts like this, not because I think it will, could, or should happen, or even because I want it to happen. I only put it out there because I enjoy contemplating different ideas for character turns and twists in the GFFA. Blame it on the "No, I am your father" phenomenon... maybe George Lucas caused me to be always thinking about things that would be totally and completely unexpected... :)

Looks like Phasma is going to be this trilogy's 'Boba Fett'.

I always invented stories with my action figures of how Boba became a jedi or how Luke put on his armor. Just to look cooler.

Will Luke be dressed as Boba probably not.

Totally agree. I just like to think about the "What if?" and how things would shake out, as implausible as it may be... If a hunted man like Luke were to, unknown to everyone else, put on the Mando armor and pose as Boba Fett, who would come after him? The Republic and/or Resistance is too busy trying to mop up the galactic conflict with the Empire and its sympathizers, and the "Imperial Remnant," First Order, and Knights of Ren are unlikely to care much about going after a rogue bounty hunter... in fact, they would probably still enlist the help of bounty hunters. You have to admit that it would make a great cover and still allow him to be involved without being knowingly involved.

I have thought of an idea taht is similiar, but not that he is Boba Fett.

Remember the black armored stormtrooper from Maz Kanatas castle? The one with Fear on his forehead.

one of my theories is that this castle is the jedi temple, and all the people within are jedi in hiding... and Luke Skywalker is the Fear trooper.

Well... I must say, the beauty of speculating on Luke's fate (and, Kasdan was the one that said... he jumped back in because he found fascinating to discover what has become of Luke Skywalker)... was sort of spoiled with the infamous release of the Obi-Wan/White Knight-style Luke pictures on Z internetssss.

Luke could have become a LOT OF THINGS after ROTJ.

    An ermit.
    A Vigilante.
Why not hidden in a Mandalorian costume...

The more I read spoilers... the more I am inclined to think Luke as the Clint Eastwood character from Unforgiven.

He went to exile because something broke him.

After the war, the Force having been balanced by his father, the Sith gone... he knew, in order for him to respect what his father has sacrificed himself for... and knowing if he intervenes in the Cold War/Republic business... and stays with Leia... there would still be a treat for him to be seduced by the dark side of the Force (it almost won over him on the second Death Star)...

So... in order for him to LET GO.... and don't repeat his father's mistake.... he leaves Leia behind, and go as far away as possible.

That is why I am not 100% sure Luke goes into founding a New Jedi Academy.... he probably went to live as a simple Farmer on a remote planet.
Vader's legacy.... the Knights of Ren... believing Luke has killed Vader and is still alive, finally find his location and destroy his simple and remote life... including his family (I think Rey survives, if she ends up as Skywalker's daughter).

Again.... Luke decides to LET GO and honor what his clan and family has fought against, and turn his back.... leaves for good, to avoid his father's fate.

Probably leaves Rey behind in the process.

I still think the main antagonist of the new Star Wars trilogy will be someone ABANDONED by Vader at some point.
After ROTS, Vader knew he was duped by Palpatine and finds an apprentice to help him kill the Emperor and take his place.
Then, he finds out about Luke, and becomes obsessed over him... leaving Snoke behind, unknowingly of what is happening in Vader's mind.

When Vader dies, Snoke then, creates his own army and wants to avenge Vader's death by killing the last Jedi.

The only benefit to Luke becoming Fett is the ability to hide his age behind the suit and mask. The stuntwork would be much easier to pull off convincingly.

Chief among the downsides however is the 800 lb bantha in the room: two iconic cash cows are worth more than one.

The reason I think Luke wouldn't disguise himself as Fett is because that would be the very worst way possible to try to keep a low profile ESPECIALY with somebody like Bossk having been on the sail barge. Bossk has to have said something about Boba Fett's death to the hunters he knew. EU always made them rivals so in that continuty Bossk could care less and even brag about the INCREDIBLY STUPID way Fett died but seeing as how his relationship with Fett has played out differently in CW I would say that Bossk would be the very first person that would try to seek out Fett once word of him surviving the Sarlacc got around. Luke may not even know about Bossk and Fett's partnership and friendship but having Han as a friend is enough to have let him know that Boba Fett was a renowned bounty hunter with a huge reputation. Luke would clearly do better at not calling atention to himself dressing up as an overgrown Jawa instead of disguising himself as Fett who many beings in the galaxy knew.

I think that would be an interesting turn of events. I'm not sure if it would be the best way to develop the Boba Fett character though. I think that would make him more of a symbol than I'd like to be than a person. It would allow writers to kill off clone!Boba and replace him with someone who they think is "cooler" rather than justifying why people think the original Boba's such a BA and just letting his character blast his way out of the sarlacc pit.

    Excellent post and thread!

I love this idea. Not as something that should happen in the films, but just as an out of the box "why the hell not?" storyline.

It could be an interesting short little stint, and I'd love to see it actually pop up in a comic down the line.

Dark Toilet, you are my kind of scum!

Nice ideas from you @Dark Toilet and @A Good friend .
Now I want to see a standalone movie about Luke as Boba Fett and his partner in crime C3PO as IG89 catching their bounty.
I can really see it how it could pan out.
Fett and IG89 working for a Hutt, doing things in a grey area, catching bad guys, drinking in cantinas, exploding stuff, terrorise the galaxy, rocking the Slave 1 and mate with Slave Leia.
No doubt, this is a movie I want to see.
