i'm sure i'm not alone in wondering who of the OC is going to bite the dust first in the sequel trilogy. will it be Luke, becoming a Force ghost like Obi-Wan? or will it be the long awaited Han death scene, postponed all these years? if these characters don't get killed off, where will they end up? recurring characters in perhaps another sequel trilogy? cameos in the spin-off films?

I certainly prefer some heroic death than the "galactic riding to the sunset" from Star Trek VI
But the literal riding to the sunset from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade is pure magic!

Actually, i think that R2-D2 might bite it in this next trilogy. They'll do it to pull at some heartstrings.

I sometimes have a hard time trying to discern when you guys are talking serious or when it's sarcasm or just a joke.
In any case, I'm almost certain that, if anyone of the old films survives the new trilogy, it would be the two droids

I'm not being sarcastic, they have played around with the thought of killing them before 4-5.

Seriously? I didn't know. I've read a lot of stuff and watched a lot of documentaries and don't remember anything about that...

By the way, I think that the first characters to die will be Han-Chewie. Not just one of them, but the two of them in the same, single, heroic action.
I can't see Han mourning on his dead pal. It sort of worked on the novels, but I don't see it for the movies.
And I can't imagine Chewbacca surviving Han either, with his life-debt and all.
So I think they both will part as a whole; a last, heroic sacrifice to save the day.
I used to think that the Millenium Falcon would perish with them, too, but I love that ship too much.

Maybe Luke die later, but it won't be "forever" since he will return as a Force ghost. I can see him "doing a Gandalf", though.

R2-D2 got shot up in A New Hope, i thought he was dead but it was a fake out. C3-PO got blasted too, but was fixed. So they have played around with the idea of killing the droids.

Oh, I misunderstood you. I thought you mean they wanted to actually kill them (not make us believe they're dead) but they rejected it. Like they thought to kill Lando and the Falcon on the Second Death Star, but they finally didn't do it.

I'm thinking Han first for sure, Luke and Leia both in nine with the pair of them becoming Force ghosts. The OT characters deaths will surely be extremely emotional, more than the deaths of Qui-Gon, Anakin's mother, Order 66, Padme, Anakin and Vader.

I definitely think Han will be first, although I wish it would be in Episode VIII if for no other reason than dying in E7 is so expected. But I think he will die in E7. I think Leia and Luke will obviously live so that we can see the ramifications of Han's death, especially emotionally on them. I think Leia will die in Episode VIII -- I'd hate to see her live on in the background somewhere, completely irrelevant. I could see Luke living on into Episode IX before dying heroically and setting up Episodes X-XII.

Lastly, I would hope Chewie and the Falcon don't die with Han. I always like the idea of him passing his baby on to his kids, but of course that all remains very much in doubt at this point.

With the rumors of the twisted "Han shoots first" and the rumored Han and Luke standoff I think Han might die first, but at the same time I've heard Luke might die in VII. I foresee a severely depressed audience if Han, Luke, and the Falcon all go down in one film. Especially since Han can't exactly become a force ghost like I expect Luke to. Oh god I really hope we don't see those three things in the climax of VII

Yeah, I totally think it would be a mistake in both tone and story to have so many things ripped from the fans at once, especially when Disney/LFL has the opportunity to milk these moments for affect. I don't know if I could stand to watch my favorite character:

    1- Predictably die
2- While the Falcon also gets destroyed
    3- While Chewie also dies
4- As well as Luke Skywalker

You're absolutely right IMO that is way too much to lose in one episode while sacrificing the future episodes.

My guess is that Chewie, the Falcon and Luke and Leia live.

As long as Luke is not killed by a flying planet called Tarantula I will be fine.

I never even considered R2 of dying. Man that would kill me.(r2-d2)
With concept art of another astro droid you may be on to something.

I think its going to be Han that dies first. He's the actor that would most want it, his death would set Luke on a path that would change him and it would add gravitas to the Villain of the new trilogy

Personally I feel as if Leia, Han, and Chewie bite the dust in VII. Leia early on to setup the story, Han and Chewie in the end on a suicide mission to save the galaxy. I think Oscar Isaacs will be taking the Falcon and then when Luke eventually dies in Ep. 9 the only thing we'll always have to remember the OT will be the Falcon. Han is gone in Ep. 7, no questions, unless Harrison decided he actually liked being Han this time around.
