I really can't wait for Chuck Wendig's Aftermath trilogy to come out this September and it will be set between ROTJ &TFA. But is DelRey planning more post-Jedi/Pre-TFA novels in 2016 and beyond since it would be hard for the Aftermath trilogy to cover the entire 30 year span between ROTJ and TFA?

I wonder since 2016 will be the silver(25th anniversdary) of the release of Tim Zahn's Heir to the Empire. Will Zahn return to write a reboot Thrawn trilogy or a new post-Jedi trilogy set between ROTJ & TFA with the Big 3 set 5 years or so after Jedi. It would be fun to see Grand Admiral Thrawn,Mara Jade, the Chiss and the Unknown Regions in the new ST era. Maybe Thrawn could team up with the New Empire or the Inquisitors or the new villians of the ST to fight the New Republic. Or how about an adventure trilogy set in the Unknown Regions in the ST era where Thrawn fights enemies in the UR as well as the Republic or the Big 3 or any of the new heroes that will appear in The Force Awakens,Episodes VIII & IX & beyond. 2016 would definitely be an approriate time for zahn to do such a trilogy to celebrate the launch of the Old EU and for Zahn to begin anew with Thrawn and co. in the New EU/Sequel Trilogy era.

I hope also Troy Denning comes back to do write a Han Solo and Princess Leia standalone hardcover set between ROTJ & TFA having an adventure in the Millennium Falcon in the uncharted reaches of the galaxy like the Unknown Regions,Wild Space or the Corporate Sector.

Aftermath is first in a Trilogy I believe.

As @Link Voxx stated above, Aftermath is the first of a trilogy between ROTJ and TFA. I expect (or at least hope) that we'll see Zahn return to SW writing. I'm not a big EU fan (although I've read 10 EU novels) but Mara Jade is my favorite EU character that I'd like to see canon....even if she's not Lukes wife. Her backstory and trials are something worthy of a movie alone....my opinion.

Thrawn's adventures are worthy of a movie alone too. And I know that Aftermath is the first of a trilogy. I was just calling it the Aftermath trilogy. Because right now there is no other name for it. Maybe Zahn doesn't have to do a reboot trilogy. Just do new SW novels set post-Jedi with Thrawn in new adventures going upa gianst or teaming up with different enemies which will appear in TFA. Or maybe a new Luke Skywalker novel of him getting married hopefully Mara again and having a son named Ben who grows up to be the Domhall Gleeson character who becomes the rogue Imperial and falls out with Luke and goes on his own adventures. Maybe Zahn could do a novel or a trilogy of the early adventures of Gleeson's character whether he is Luke's son or not.

It's all up to Disney and what they want to do, not Zahn. If they choose to hire Zahn to write again then we will see him I'm sure because he loved writing Star Wars, but don't get your hopes up to see Thrawn, Ben Skywalker, or Mara Jade because they probably won't be the topics of Disney's planned stories.

I think Zahn could do a novel or a trilogy about the early adventures of Poe Dameron or Han and Leia and their daughter Rey or even Domhall Gleeson's adventures with the empire before going rogue. Or any novels set among the Unknown regions or Wild Space between ROTJ & TFA. According to the spoilers on Reddit a while back. Han has an adventure or two in the Falcon with or without Leia between ROTJ & TFA. Zahn should do a standalone hardcover about one of Han's Post-Jedi/Pre-TFA adventures in the Falcon perhaps similar to his last book Scoundrels.

What kind of novels do you want Tim Zahn to write in the new canon? More feedback would be appreciated.

I think we can see Thrawn Trilogy redone, but on a much smaller scale. Thrawn could be a brilliant man who threatens to bring the Empire stability and force the Rebellion to stay as one instead of becoming a New Republic. That would mean stuff like Rogue Squadron and Bacta War-like material, but no Joruus Cabout and dark Jedi. I think TFA has that down. As for Mara, I think we see her discover her Jedi powers and simply be a ridiculously physical and mobile character who doesn't understand how the Emperor is in her head or what even the Force is. We just gotta hope for the best!

I was disappointed that DelRey didn't make any announcements at Celebration Annaheim about any new novels coming in 2016 or if any new or old authors were to write new SW books in 2016 and beyond. But there's always San Diego Comic Con and New York Comic Con.

As I said before It would be awesome to see the Unknown Regions in the new ST era. Will the big 3 or the new heroes from TFA be having adventures in the UR in post-ROTJ/pre-TFA books or even Post-TFA/pre-Episode VIII books? Will the first order and/or the resistance face any enemies in the UR perhaps the Chiss or the Yuuzhan Vong. I think it would be fun if there will be Episodes X-XII that it would deal with the SW galaxy being invaded by the Vong or any species from the UR and the new heroes Finn,Poe Dameron and Rey face the alien invaders after Luke,Han and Leia are long gone.

I think the Vong is considered by most fans as one of the weakest parts of the Star Wars EU, because the NJO had the first series with multiple authors, Chewbacca was killed, Anakin Solo was killed, and most of the storyline was on and off.

I loved the Zahn books, but am not sure I want to see him in the new canon. It seems like the new canon novels are avoiding telling any stories of significance, in order to not hamstring the movies. The old EU was allowed to massively change the face of the universe, for better or worse. I'd hate to see Zahn wasted on telling stories as inconsequential as "heir to the jedi" or "lords of the sith".

Great point. He did have that Mara Jade standalone, set during the Galactic Civil War, which I thought was pretty great, if not too significant. I believe it was called "Choices of One"
