Will we be Getting a Proper Rematch Between Rey and Kylo in Episode IX?

A final Rey/Kylo fight is about the only 100% certain prediction I have about IX.

I suspect it will happen but I'd be surprised to see people interested in it. Because it seems the only thing that could be new about it now is that she loses this time, and I just don't see how that would fit in her hero's journey or the climax of the ST. This has to be where she wins and so... yes you'll get the rematch, you already know the outcome, so I guess they'll have to find something within the choreography to draw your interest.

Because we all are expecting a Rey/Kylo final fight, i think there is a chance to not see it, just for this, to surprise us. Interesting where the story will go in this chapter.

 

Just replace the Praetorian guard with the Knights and that will be their second 'versus battle'.

 

Seems like they are setup for a confrontation in Ep 9, although that may not play out as a classic 1 on 1 saber battle.

 

I agree with this that it may not play out classic 1vs1 and with @Madmartigan and @Bunai that there will be a twist .We are hearing a lot of rumours about rey and kylo’s big fight on other leak sites but it was the same with TLJ. People took it for granted that Rey and Kylo were going to have a massive fight against each other then and they didn’t - they fought against praetorian guards . So who knows ? Maybe the trailers ( when we get them)might give us an indication of who is fighting who .

 

I think she has to lose for the sake of Kylo's redemption. So it does fit within the hero's journey or the climax of the ST. Kylo beats her and has the possibility to end her, but he doesn't. Or he actually killes her and then he brings her back to life, like Anakin tried with Padme.

in my mind they moved past that in TLJ, and i can't see either of them attacking the other.
she doesn't want to kill him, and he certainly doesn't want to kill her.. i don't see it happening.

I'd say yes. But I think she will also have a surprise foe she duels too.

 

I have been on the record saying that Rey needed to actually suffer a set back so that she could ultimately triumph... but I don't think this is the way. In the final installment she has to win. And I know I am alone in this, but I'd like to see Rey's arc be determined by her story now and not have a repeat of TLJ where it seems as though her path is a function of Luke and Kylo. Kylo's redemption shouldn't be Rey's burden and her arc shouldn't have to accommodate it. Again, I know I am alone on this but that's me. I want Rey to exercise agency and decide for her fate based on what is best for her and driven by her world view.

I agree with this. I've been saying since TFA came out that they "gave away the store" by having Rey defeat Kylo in their first meeting (and her first lightsaber battle). I do still think they will face off in IX, but it will be tough for them to do something new with it.

 

It would have made more sense to have a stalemate in TFA, maybe have the planet split between them before the battle concluded. Then defeating him could represent a triumph of sorts. But again, what's done is done.

 

If it were up to me, Kylo will kick the trash out of Rey in the rematch. Then Rey will be in a position where she needs help from her friends just as Luke did in Empire Strikes Back. This would be earlier in the movie before Kylo's redemption.

I don't think you'd get in trouble for failing to use the spoiler tag in this instance because I think most of us believe it's what we're ultimately going to see. They're the only remaining overt Force Users, there are no other foils for them to face except each other. My guess is that we'll get something different in the choreography and location that will be the means by which it stands apart from other fights.

 

What was improper about the first match? The problem is who really wants to see a repeat. I find both Rey and Kylo to be mediocre when it comes to light saber skills. You have one character using a weapon that can do more damage to him than an opponent, and Rey hasn't done anything in two movies that has been physically spectacular, so I don't expect much from her. I don't even know why Rey and Kylo are fighting. Why does Rey want to fight him?

 

Because she's a hero and he's a villain of course.
