they said they weren't going to change the story or anything in regards to her death, so her character shouldn't be affected during TLJ.

as for ep 9, i really have no idea how they'll pull off leaving her out. maybe she does die in the next episode. maybe she gets put in a coma, as rumors a while ago suggested.

whoever gave you trolling and unoriginal votes are lame. this is a good discussion to have because, whether we like it or not; something has to be done about Leia moving forward. they've said they don't want to go the CGI route, and that they won't be changing the narrative in TLJ, so what is going to happen?

 

It's NOT safe to assume that Leia dies in TLJ. We have to consider Colin Trevorrow's statment for EPIX: He wanted to have bigger roles for Leia and Luke in his movie. So, I think Carrie Fisher was definitely meant to be in EPIX.

Maybe the coma rumors are true after all and the movie ends with her being in a coma. Then you can kill her off in EPIX.
Yes, Iger said no changes, but you have to keep in mind that the movie is still in editing. This "no changes" statement doesn't mean they aren't cutting any Leia scenes. For example they could cut the supposedly coma wake up scene and save it (and other scenes) for EPIX.

Also, Disney said they won't recreate Leia by the help of CGI but they could still recast her. So, there is no definite answer to her fate in TLJ.

 

I'll burn down the theater if they recast Carrie.

 

It will be weird to see Carrie die on screen as Leia.

 

I wonder if Lucasfilm has negotiated with any of their stars about posthumous CGI rights. I think they could make a convincing Leia, especially if they got a good actress who could play Carrie Fisher playing Leia. I think they did a great job with Peter Cushing.

 

I think what Iger's statement indicates is that they are not going to make any wholesale changes to TLJ due to Carrie's death and that they will deal with it in IX. Fortunately Carrie's tragic passing occurred after TLJ finished filming and early enough in the development of IX that they have time to figure out how to handle Leia and her likely demise without any major disruption to the filmmaking process.

 

I think Leias death will be announced in the opening crawl of EPIX.

 

Here is LFL's options.

1. Recast & act like nothing happened.

2. Recast with CGI.

3. Recast gets horribly injured & is in a "bacta suit/mask".

4. Leia dies "between episodes".

5. Leia "disappears like Luke" between epidodes.

6. Leia is talked about like she is still alive but is not shown.

7. She "disappears" during IX but like option 6 is just "off cam".

8. Leia's ship or base or home explodes on cam but she is not shown in the ship/base/house.

9. They go the Heath Ledger's Joker route & Leia doesn't get brought up at all.

10. They use deleted scenes & archived footage and/or just her voice.

11. Recast with aged makeup to look more like CF.

 

I still think that it's possible that we see her head off into the unknown regions.

 

Yeah. Say if there was a scene were Luke was talking to Leia & she said something like "I have to go find Ben, Luke. I have to help him".

Simple editing can change Ben and him to it. Then she goes looking for the first Republic Government Building or whatever!

 

I think 8 & 10 are the most likely.

 

This is what happens. Leia's ship rams the Eclipse in the final 10 minutes of The Last Jedi killing Snoke and uncomfortably forcing Kylo into a First Order leadership competition with Hux which will only be resolved by outright Stormtrooper rebellion in IX against Kylo's "<New Soldiers>".

I'm not convinced they'll try to shoehorn Leia into the story on-screen in Ep IX. To me, the real question is whether they can make Leia's end/death/disappearance/journey feel emotionally resonant w/o Carrie in the movie. Gonna be tough.

C. Trevorrow (direct/writer of Episode IX): Big plans for Leia in my movie.
Deadline: Leia has a bigger role in Episode VIII than The Force Awakens.
THR: It was planned that Leia was to have a bigger role in Episode IX than Episode VIII.
Insurance Insider: Massive $50 million payout because Carrie Fisher is unable to continue the role of Leia.
M. Hamill (NDA'ed): Episode VIII will have an air of melancholy about it that it doesn’t need or deserve due to the death of Carrie Fisher.
StarWars.com: We want to assure our fans that Lucasfilm has no plans to digitally recreate Carrie Fisher’s performance as Princess or General Leia Organa.
B. Iger (Disney CEO & Chairman): No changes for Leia in Episode VIII due to the death of the actress that portrays her. She appears throughout the film.

 

I've considered that Leia could end up captured in TLJ like Han ending up in carbonite at the end of V with his fate uncertain (in case Ford didn't return for VI).
