It does seem the Resistance has spies in the FO. Leia gets a message from somewhere that the FO is firing up the SK weapon, and that their system is the next target. I don't know how else they could have acquired that info but through spies.

It also seems that the Resistance is fairly well known to be "The" opposer of the FO, because Rey also immediately assumes that because Finn helped Poe escape, he's with the Resistance.

He's trying to figure her out. Or he's her dad. :D (jk!)

    1. Possible
    2. Haven't watched the deleted scenes yet. Maz and Ren are also both FS. It's anyone's guess if that or that relationships is what makes them sense him
    3. It's actually who I was thinking about initially; Han wanted to run before too. Strange though he didn't seem to react when she said it to Finn.
    --- Double Post Merged, Apr 16, 2016, Original Post Date: Apr 16, 2016 ---
It could have been reconnaissance flights that they knew the FO was firing up the SK weapon... and after destroying the Republic Home system, it was probably a safe assumption that the Resistance would be next. It's a better likelihood that the FO had spies among the New Republic than vice versa (IMO).

    SPOILER TO FOLLOW

***Since JJ has confirmed that no one in Episode VII is Rey's parent (it rules out the Skywalkers)***

Has anyone been able to describe all of the 7 x-wing pilots that survive the star killer battle when they arrive back on base? I know 4 of them are Poe, Jess, Snap and Nien. I can spot a Caucasian female pilot when they get back. But I haven't been able to spot the last two.

If you mean the guy who says, "Good luck, Poe," I think he does survive (?). (His name is listed as Niv Lek in the credits, I believe, played by James McArdle.)

And I think I just found the last guy.
Lt. Bastian, the black pilot, seems to have survived.
Besides ground troops, is this all the Reistance has left?

    I ha
I have been noticing a lot of these too, the scene changes. It becomes more obvious as you watch and rewatch again. Some of the things I notice are sighs and more subtle non verbal cues, that were not as obvious as when first seen.

Non verbal, well one that sticks out and I could tell he was a bit of upset or shock when hearing Luke's name from Finn on the Falcon, it seems more like Han is downright pissed when he says "Yeah, I knew Luke" rather than just upset. A couple of cute things that Rey does. I noticed that it is Finn next to the bolt when it hits. The more I have watched it, the more becomes more obvious or clicks to me.

Things that click, I know that John Williams music at times sound a like in different themes, but I notice a few nods to "Across the Stars" from AotC in some interesting places.

I'm glad this discussion is happening. It's amazing how new information can come to light, after countless viewings!
Hopefully a few of the more casual questions are answered between now and ep. 8.

Does anyone else wonder how good a pilot Kylo is? With his lineage, and opportunities to learn to fly sitting on dad's lap, I would assume he should have some skill in the pilot's seat? (Unless of course, little Ben was shipped off straight to Jedi boarding school!)

And speaking of good pilots, Rey appears to have superlative flying skills. Obviously she receives help from the Force, but I feel this makes a connection to Anakins renowned skills.

And how about the ambiguous looks/affection from Leia and Chewie at the end? Leia obviously knows something about this girl, and Rey seems to recognize that Leia is connected to her somehow, hence the mutual hug. (Of course, this could be related entirely to their connection to Han, and his death.) And the most interesting look/ interaction from Chewie, is when (I believe) he and Rey are travelling through hyperspace to Achto, and Chewie gives her this 'side-long' look. It's as if, he is expecting a certain reaction from her as they travel closer to Luke. Curious...

Anyways, happy hunting to everyone as we try to fill the void between now and the next episode! May the Force-sleuthing be with us all!

WE haven't seen Kylo Ren pilot anything. I wonder if he learned, I am sure he must have.
Yeah, that hug and Leia's ring being kind of a ying yang thing. Probably just because she knew who she was (Rey the girl everyone has been talking about ), and what she went through (because of the Force Sensitivity thing), but who knows.

i suppose i should cop to this:

i have always made fun of how Kylo Ren stomps around sorta duck-footed, and chalked it up to Driver saying he tripped over the costume a lot.
but i went and saw Midnight Special last week (it's good--go see it!), and i realized that Driver is kinda profoundly pigeon-toed.
i'd seen him in other things and never noticed, but now i can't unsee it.
watching TFA again it's clear now that his peculiar gait is compensating for this--to force himself to walk in a straight line and not turn his feet in.
i feel kinda bad now 'cause i've been mean about it ~ hahaha

even so, the stomping works for the character, so there is that.

I can't un-see the SNL skit where Driver played a cross between Napoleon Dynamite and Kylo Ren.
That's just not Dark Side, it's Dork Side.

I'm gonna be burned alive for saying this:
The more times I view TFA, the more the newness and awe is wearing off slowly, , the more I'm getting a clearer head for my thoughts of this movie and it's starting to dawn on me (in my opinion) that TFA is majorly lacking as a "character" film with the only exception of Han Solo setting up not much at all unless you count the entire movie leading up to the last few seconds of the movie...this movie has shown me that most of it is meant to be designed as memorable moments and classic scenery, but don't get me wrong---I still love the movie.

When you say the way he walks are you talking about a possible collapsible arch? That's what I have. But hey, if it works for the character then even better since he takes his character with him everywhere with that walk :p

One thing I noticed at the start is that the Star Destroyer flies past the planet and moon and blocks it from our vision, and the troop carrier ships going to Jakku fly around the Star Destroyer into the foreground of the screen. If those are the troops going to Jakku, aren't they flying the wrong way, or at least the long way? Can someone explain this to me please? Is the planet in the opening scene Jakku, or not? I don't get it.

i tried (not very hard) to find a video on youtube, but maybe not for no reason all of the clips that came up were shot from the waist up.
when he's playing Kylo Ren, he corrects it, but his natural gait is kinda waddly-awkward and very crooked.
the stompy Ren-thing works. it just always struck me that he moves funny. now i know why.

there are two planetoids in the background of the Finalizer in the opening scene.
i always figured the big white one in front was Jakku's moon and the red one in the distance was just a neighbor?

The following conversation takes place early in the scene "Base Infiltration"
Finn: Solo, we'll figure it out. We'll use The Force.
Han: That's not how The Force works.
    Chewbacca: growls/moans something
    Han: Oh really, you're cold?

If you insert this for Chewbacca's dialogue as if this is what he said:
"Can we use The Force to warm me up?"

It's really funny and also makes perfect sense!

    EDIT:

This inspired me to create this thread:

Well no, not necessarily, , because we are seeing the top of the ship even though it's not really noticeable in the dark so the ships are coming from The Finalizer's underside and it's hiding behind Jakku's moon so Jakku is the planet that's further away...(I think :D)
