There's been a lot of speculation over how much screen time Luke will have in the new film, and also some confusion over the information out there.. So if you have anything noteworthy regarding Luke then post it here!

There's been a report from one of MakingStarWars' sources which claims Luke is in The Force Awakens for one scene, which would stink on ice.. but is there any evidence which suggests otherwise?

Personally I think the plot will revolve around the characters finding Luke for the first two acts, then he'll be very present in Act III. Having a couple of major scenes before popping up for a duel with our friendly neighbourhood sith foe.

Also there's reports of flashbacks involving a younger Luke, that would be very cool to see especially if he's dueling someone.

I'm going to throw this out there.....and my mind changes all the time in different threads. ....If he is in only one scene....it might imply he's darker.

Despite that "confirmation" of him being in only one scene, I still think he'll be in quite a bit. But not most. I can see him being introduced later in the film, but in enough scenes to make it worthwhile.

I'm also a bit psyched for him to be somewhat crazed, as every rumor goes.

I believe he will be in the last 20-25 minutes of the film. Several scenes.

Obi Wan was in ANH for that amount of time and many scenes until he dies. Luke is very important to the story or he wouldn't be searched for by both good and bad.

Not only that but I'm sure he will be mentioned several times too.

I wonder if Luke will go by a different name like Obi Wan did?

I just hope that he is in a handful of scenes like Alec Guinness was in Ep.IV at least 15-20 minutes.
Last rumor stated that he is only in one scene at the end?
I doubt it, it would be a waste for both, Mark Hamill and the Luke Skywalker character.
Disney will play it safe for their first instalment.

I don't know if you're suggesting he could become become a villain or not, but I don't think they would do that with Luke.. It would be a re-tread of Anakin I think, though if he were a Dark Jedi that would make things very interesting!

It would certainly be interesting for someone to make an appearance in an actual Star Wars movie using a bit of the Dark side while not being inherently evil. Someone who is a bit astray... it's a dynamic the movies have not really addressed.

I agree with both of you. I don't think he is just in one or two scenes but I don't expect him to have the screen time some people are thinking. Disney will play it somewhat safe though and that's why I can't totally agree with the "Mark Hamill has one scene" stuff. They will do some stuff that isn't necessarily something fans expected but not using Luke to that extent seems a little overkill.

I keep saying TFA may have a big action scene/opener(from recent leaks-buzz, might be Tatooine), then the entire plot-story might jump ahead 10-20 years.
Luke may be a Jedi Master in the first act, then after the plot jumps, be in seclusion or exile.
I don't think Luke will be in the story as much as Han & Chewbacca BUT he will be more prominent in EP8. More than likely a Yoda or Ben Kenobi type.
Disney & Bad Robot have both stated TFA has one big IMAX scene, which I think is the possible destruction/WMD damage to Tatooine.
I doubt Luke will be involved in that part but he may show up later.

I suppose a time jump is better than flashbacks. Still, it would seem weird for a Star Wars movie. Where are we on the whole 'flashbacks' rumor anyways?
Also, could the IMAX scene possibly have something to do with the crashing star destroyer? I never heard anything about WMD on Tatooine, is that a new thing going around I just missed?

    Anyone's wife really. :D

JJ Abrams did NOT want any IMAX or 3D for TFA. He wanted a "gritty 1970s era western" look for the film .
Disney went: uhhh, no, WE want a high tech IMAX 3D film. It's 2015 & we need the $$$ that goes with IMAX sales.
It's speculation on my part but the recent interview with the UK chopper pilots who helped film the desert Tatooine stuff leads me to think TFA's only big IMAX scene will be in the same desert.
There were also script/SP leaks saying how Tatooine has its very landscape/surface completely changed.
For Rey to be camping out in a abandoned AT AT would make sense too. The AT AT could have been damaged in the WMD event.
I seriously doubt the huge event is a Star Destroyer or SSD(Super Star Destroyer) crashing on the planet surface but it's feasible to have occur.
I wrote a post a few months ago where Han and Chewbacca go to Mos Espa to recover a object(from Rey, BB8, maybe Finn). A villian ship or Imperial Cruiser might show up in the star system, SHOOT DOWN Han's command ship(a SSD) which might cause the massive destruction on Tatooine.
The group(Han, Chewbacca, R2/C3P0, Rey, Finn, BB8, and the blue alien/Andy Serkis) may flee in the Millienium Falcon.

He was hesitant because IMAX cameras are very big loud and unstable.

This was in the entertainment industry trades(Variety, Hollywood Reporter, IndieFilm, etc).
When JJ and Bad Robot were first released to the general public, word was they wanted to keep TFA basic & tradional(few CGI fx, no IMAX or 3D, shoot on film). I think Disney nixed a few of these ideas due to marketing/formats.
I too was going to say the bulk and logistics of using IMAX cameras kept JJ from wanting to use them.

Han Solo is the functional equivalent of Qui-Gon Jinn or Obi-Wan Kenobi in Episode VII as the mentor figure. Except he's more human and relateable than they were last we saw of him.

Perhaps he was subtly commenting on the "SuperLuke" or "SuperLuke saves the universe" speculation or rumors.

Mark Hamill has said for years that Lucas had brought up the idea of Luke being a cameo in a post-ROTJ movie where he'd turn over the lightsaber ("Excalibur") to the next new hope character.
