semi-off topic, but i'm kinda hoping to see one of the good guys with a double (maul-like) saber in the new films.
preferably daisy's character with a yellow one.. but we all see these things differently

 

I'm with you. I'm really not overly keen. It's a pretty considerable difference to what we're used to. It looks like something out of Dungeons & Dragons.

 

I keep thinking that I've already seen that image a long time ago (not in a galaxy far far away). I have this strange deja-vu feeling

 

As someone who used to fake up posters like this when TPM was being made, and has since done a lot of graphic art work....I see this as totally fake. I'm not arrogant enough to say there's no chance it's real...but it's not at all consistent with anything we've seen, the little bits of other red blade at the hilt are an obvious cheap attempt to make it look like a sword that a knight of the round table might use...and it looks like someone had a tall metal coffee mug and photoshopped it into the hood and put a couple quick lights on it. It's amateurish, at best...and...IMO...if this somehow was real, I would be really disappointed.

 

Never mind that unusual lightsabre's threat to enemies, it could do the user's fingers serious damage simply by wiggling it

 

To be fair, if it were a toy, it could be a custom job and not yet sealed in a custom card back (also custom). What can I say? I'm a collector and have both opened and unopened items.

i'm highly dubious about its authenticity.. but i do like it.

as @Dr.WhoCares mentioned.. a definite darth Revan vibe going on there which is right up my street.

 

KOTOR movie finally??? That look so Raven to me.

 

I was just going to remark that all the concept art looks like the KOTOR era. Not that it isn't genuine, but not the aesthetic I would have preferred. LotR with high-technified body armour and lightsabres.

But, that's always been part of SW's timeless appeal. If we look at Emperor Palpatine or Yoda, or old Obi-Wan (or even ANH Luke in his desert jimjams), none of them look like an immediate SW tone-match. Insert them in a metal, future-industrial environment and give them blasters or laser-swords and they magically make themselves at home

 

I'd say that while Viral got word it was legit art it doesnt mean its final concept. The lightsaber could be different, the mask.... etc. However it does look kinda cool.

 

The dual cross guards do serve a purpose as talked about above to protect against the opposing blade sliding down and cutting off a hand or cutting a saber hilt, both of which are, at least in the semi-cannon sources, defined saber fighting techniques.

 

Yup. I've defintely seen this before, years ago. I'm almost 100% positive this won't be in the movie.
