There's no telling how many times I've watched it over the years, most recently yesterday. Joe Dante was great in the 80s with Explorers, Gremlins, Innerspace, The 'Burbs, etc. He kind of fell off after that though. I'm still looking forward to reading this but I have been knocking out some other stuff and didn't get to either of those books as quickly as I had planned.

I just finished 'Origin' by Dan Brown. Not his best book, but I really enjoyed it.

I'm excited for the new Stephen King (The Outsider), coming in May & the new Robert Galbraith (Lethal White).

The next installment in The Culture Saga, from one of my favourite writers. The first two novels (Consider Phlebas and The player of games), with a proper adaptation and classic syfy style (that almost never happens), could be really brilliant and astonishing syfy movies.

    Matter.jpg

The interesting events from the Star Wars comics.

    STL004363.jpg

A one of a kind classic comic from Segrelles: The Mercenary. Classic/hyperealistic fantasy and lots of imagination from the early 80's. Sublime piece of art with a comic made of oil painting technique as you will never see like this. Read some the stories when I was a child and now recovered with incredible editions.
    Waiting number 6.

And the list of comics and books is increasing every day... We need at least two lifes for such amount of hobbies...

i read these two over the weekend.
i've always had a nodding interest in the Perry Rhodan series since it's the longest running series of all time.
it's been going for over 50 years and is about to tip 3000 books (they put out a new one every week).
only the first 120 are available in English and were translated (poorly) in the 70s.

Perry Rhodan was also one of many influences that Lucas drew upon for Star Wars.

unfortunately this series is hilariously outdated, excruciatingly written, laughably plotted, and the characters are about as interesting as sawdust.
fortunately you can read one of these books in about an hour (if you don't fall asleep).

    allegedly they get better.

i'd be interested in seeing how the current books read, but i would have to really brush up on my German to do that.

That's my favorite book. There's no count how many times I have read it. When I was younger, I knew parts of it by heart. Amazing, amazing book. Fantasy, satire, morality play... and so much more.

I vividly remember the first time I've read it and the opening: Annushka has already spilled the oil. I was HOOKED.

The "His Dark Materials" trilogy by Philip Pullman. I'm on the third book, and the story is GORGEOUS. It's a perfect blend of beauty and horror. The actions of the villains (and the thoughts behind them) are so disturbing that I'm sure many readers thought... How did something that evil even cross someone's mind? But the same goes for the sweet, touching moments involving the heroes. There are moments in these books that have you wondering how was it possible for something THAT beautiful to be translated into words an put on paper. His Dark Materials is a masterpiece, it instantly became a favorite of mine.
The film adaptation ("The Golden Compass", first book) is an insult to its source material, no one should watch that trainwreck.

I knocked out Wargames and it was really good. I also just finished The Force Unleashed (after wanting to read it for years) and was disappointed. Instead of expanding on the game's story it felt like they condensed it so they could expand on things that really didn't matter. I never would have imagined the game would have more plot and more believable characters than the novelization. Look at Sturn for example. He manages to be somewhat of a character in the game, appearing in cutscenes which I hoped the game would expand on. Instead he never even really shows up, his backstory is provided by a few off-hand comments by other characters and he appears (seen only as a distorted face through the viewport) in his AT-ST just in time to die.

Re Reading Red Sparrow & its a pretty god spy novel it not quite on the Le Carre level but it not bad at all.

Though having seen the trailer for the film I'm getting the impression that they took the name & some of the characters & then made a very different film. I know that films of books will always have some differences but this feels like being very different but maybe that's just the trailer?

Spaceballs: The Book sucked but was mercifully brief. Now I'm reading...

I saw it in the bookstore one day and was intrigued. I've read/enjoyed all the original novels and short stories but haven't read much of the stuff by other authors. In fact I've only read "Moriarty: The Hound Of The D'Urbervilles" by Kim Newman and the Stephen King short story "The Doctor's Case" from "Nightmares And Dreamscapes". But I was so surprised to see that the 20 year NBA veteran who scored about 38K points while moonlighting as a co-pilot for Trans American Airlines had written a novel about Sherlock's brother that I had to buy it. I'm about halfway through and so far it's pretty good. Even though Mycroft acts more like Sherlock than what we know of Mycroft (though this is a younger Mycroft and not the older man of the books) it also doesn't feel very Holmes-y. It's hard to explain, I just don't feel like I'm reading a Sherlock-related book and more like a decent adventure/mystery set in the same time period. But it's kept me interested plus I'm stumped about the mystery and didn't anticipate any of the twists so far which is a good thing in a mystery novel.

I have 2 books going at the moment (I just had shoulder surgery and have lots of time to kill), the other is The Force Awakens. I'm just now getting around to it and pretty soon my copy of The Last Jedi should be showing up.

I'm probably going to start The Last Jedi tomorrow, currently finishing off two great books. One is Alan Dean Foster's novelization of The Thing (1982) and the other is "Flynn's In" by Gregory McDonald. It's the 3rd of 4 novels in the Flynn series which is a spinoff of the Fletch series (Flynn was introduced in "Confess, Fletch"). The first of which was adapted into the classic Chevy Chase comedy/mystery film "Fletch". "Fletch Lives" was not based on any of McDonald's novels. I had planned on reading the Flynn books when I read all the Fletch novels a while back but I ended up saving the Flynn and Son Of Fletch novels for later. I still have one more Flynn novel and both the Son Of Fletch novels to go but they'll have to wait until I knock some other stuff out.
