I've thought about this too - that Leia wants the saber to go to Rey. But why would Poe pick it up from MvS? Couldn't MvS just give it to Rey?

 

I don't think MVS ever has the saber. I think Rose gives it to Leia who gives it to Poe to deliver to Rey.

Well, I guess it depends if you believe MSW's breakdowns which has the vicar (presumably MvS) giving the saber to Poe. Poe puts it into BB-8 and is found by Rey. Rey, Han and co. bring the saber to Rose. Rose gives it to Leia who gives it to Finn who THEN gives it to Rey during the fight with Kylo.

 

No, I don't believe Ward has this correct. Let's all remember, Jason Ward had no idea about the naming of The First Order or The Resistence. He's only got vague shot breakdowns and he tried to fill in the blanks himself.

Why would MVS give the saber to Poe, who then gives it to BB-8 and instead of Han and co bringing it back to Leia, they give it to Rose? Then they take Rose back with them so Rose can give it to Leia so she can give it to Finn who will fail so Rey will use it? This is the MSW version and it seems too contrived. In this scenario Rey isn't even relevant to the saber. If Poe succeeded then Leia would have got the saber back. Then what? No, something else is prompting this.

I think JJ is using the saber to throw everyone off. I think Kylo's mission is to hunt down Rey in order to find Luke. He's hunting force users not light sabers.

 

Poe is sent on a mission by Leia (Oscar Isaac said that)...presumably to retrieve this saber from the "Vicar". But the bad guys (including Finn) are also there around the same time so Poe puts the saber in BB-8 so it wouldn't fall into their hands and BB-8 gets the hell out of dodge. At least, that's my current understanding of the opening situation.

 

So the Vicar gets the lightsaber from SPACE, calls Leia who sends Poe. Since Poe gets captured, MVS sends Rey and BB-8 with it with instructions to get it to Han Solo. Finn joins in. They get chased and steal the Falcon and run into Han. He says, let's not take it to Leia, let's take it to somebody named Rose. They go to Rose, she gives them a vision. Rey, who already knows they have a lightsaber, is freaked out by it after Rose tries to give it to her. Then they get chased again, take Rose and finally go back to Leia. Rose gives it to Leia who then says let's let the stormtrooper have it. Then Finn can't fight so Rey has to use it and goes nuts on Kylo with it. Then she gives it back to Luke. Roll credits.

If this is remotely true it's garbage writing. I think we have this all wrong.

What we think know about Rey....

She goes by Rey but that is not her whole name.
She's the main character (the "Luke, if you will)
She lives in an AT-AT on the planet Jakku.
She eats alone.
She's friends with Max Von Sydow's "Vicar"
She can use the Force and appears to have training. (Jedi Mind trick)
She pilots the Falcon with great ability.
She kicks ass during a fight with Han's pirate buddies.
She is in a vision about Luke's Jedi Academy thus connecting her to Luke somehow.
She doesn't like the sight of Luke's old saber.
She is captured and tortured by Kylo/The First Order.
She escapes and eventually uses the lightsaber to fight off Kylo.
She pairs up with Chewy after Han's death.
She pilots the Falcon to Luke's location and gives him the saber back.

Lot's of blanks to fill in.

 

Yep all filled IMO. She will be a quite a use to the alliance.

 

When is she tortured?

 

She's supposedly captured either after she runs into the woods from Rose's pub or taken when the Falcon crashes on the snow planet. Either way, I wonder how her friends know where to find her?

 

Hadn't heard that this speeder was labelled as "Kira's" - cool.

Kira Rey - Kylo Ren then?

 

She is a scavenger, which her grandpa was a tinker, and her uncle a farmer, her daddy a smuggler.
She lives on a sand planet much like her grandpa and uncle did.
She uses the force to move large chunks of junk around in the shipyard.
She was trained by Luke years ago, hates the sight of light sabers because she saw something horrible the murder of Luke's other 5 padawan's and lost her brother which her and Han think are dead.
She is friends with the dealer/pirate Vicar which perhaps her and Finn get the lightsaber from.
She helps Finn in battle using a lightsaber.
She finds out in episode 8 Kylo is her brother the NOOOOOOOO that's not true, that's impossible (Effect).
She has Finn believing they are stealing the Falcon.
She kicks butt when facing Rockers and Mods gang members on or around the Falcon.
She is confronted by her Father Han solo when he and chewie point their weapons at them in the cockpit.
She learns Finn is as good as Obi-wan or better, when convincing Han solo to take passengers.
She learns how great of a pilot her father Han solo is, while fleeing from tie fighters on Jakku.
She learns her father Han solo and her mother Leia aren't together for the last few years or so.
She worries, just like her mother Leia used too.
