Nightdive Studios have announced that their upcoming remake of the classic Star Wars shooter Dark Forces will release on PC and consoles on February 28th next year.

First announced in August, the remaster will bring the 1995 first-person shooter, which introduced fan-favourite character Kyle Katarn who single-handedly took down an Imperial plot in the wake of the first Death Star's destruction. The game will feature all fourteen levels of the original, which took the player across the galaxy, from the scum and villainy of Nar Shaddaa to the Imperial capital of Coruscant. The player would tangle with fearsome enemies, including Boba Fett, while taking down the ultimate threat of the Dark Trooper program.

Nightdive, who pride themselves on bringing lost gaming treasures back to light, have worked to make the game fully playable on modern systems.

While gameplay details haven't been fully confirmed, I suspect the game may feature a 'New Game Plus' mode. The above screenshot is from Level 3: Anoat City but the weapon being used, the Jeron Fusion Cutter, is not picked up by Kyle Katarn until Level 5: Gromas Mines, and there are other examples in the trailer which seem to hint that the player may be able to restart the game with the full arsenal of 10 weapons, now accessible via a new weapon wheel game mechanic.

Star Wars: Dark Forces Remaster will release worldwide on February 28, 2024 and is playable on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S/X, Playstation 4, Playstation 5 and Nintendo Switch.
