Today is the last day of Star Wars Celebration, and The Bad Batch panel was first on the docket. After the massive cliffhanger from season 2, many fans expected to receive a season 3 announcement soon, and Lucasfilm did not disappoint -- The Bad Batch has been officially confirmed for a third and final season. While this news isn't shocking, it's still a relief to know that we'll receive some resolution after ending season 2 on such a dark chapter.  Right now, season 3 is anticipated to release at some point in 2024.

It's possible that season 3 could release in early 2024 again, especially since season 2 had such a long delay. And chances are season 3 is already well underway, as an exciting teaser trailer was shown to attendees. We also have to consider that they announced more Tales of the Jedi at Star Wars Celebration this year, and gave no indication of the release date for that show, which makes us believe it's not as far along and may come out in late 2024, if not later. That leaves an animation slot wide open in early 2024.

On a separate note, there have been an abundance of interviews over the weekend with Jon Favreau, Dave Filoni, and Kathleen Kennedy regarding the substance of Filoni's MandoVerse culmination movie, which is expected to take elements from both live-action and the animated stories. With that in mind, I fully expect to see characters from The Bad Batch, most likely Omega, in live-action at some point. I'd like to think that executive producers Brad Rau and Jennifer Corbett are having conversations with Filoni to line up release dates and narratives.

And yes, it's been confirmed this will be the final season. Again, fans weren't certain we'd even get a third season prior to the finale of season 2, so the fact that season 3 will be the last is not entirely surprising. While I'm disappointed we'll only get one more, I trust the creators to deliver a thoughtful ending to this story, and I'm sure there is more to come from Lucasfilm animation.

The Bad Batch panel is streaming over on the Star Wars YouTube channel, but if you're unable to watch the whole event, watch this space for our panel recap.

Visible sadness indeed. I sort of suspected Season 3 would be the end, but I feel they could have gone a bit further with it.

I often have wondered why some very popular shows have ended too soon.

'Cause they're done telling the story they wanted to tell. That's how good writing works.

I guess I'm sad because I was enjoying the show so much. But that is an excellent point.

Say what you gotta say, get out while the gettin' is good. Way too many good shows have overstayed their time, and diluted the greatness of their stories.

I do hope that Corbett, Rau, and their team have many other SW stories to tell, because this one has been very enjoyable.
