I definitely know the feeling! Although I find it super interesting that you're going for actors/roles first and story second. Undertandably so, but it's so different from what I do it always intrigues me.

Ditto, and that's what makes this draft so hard at times (and also so fun). We're not in the casting office, going through thousands of potential unknowns like previous Star Wars movies have. We're working with known - although maybe not recognizable - actors and actresses.

Mechandise will come with the territory. No games as of yet, but that's a great idea! I feel like some of my ideas could be video games though...although...I think I could work one of the ideas into being a sequel to a videogame...maybe. What about you?

If it creeps closer to 24 hrs between picks we will prepare to move on.

@Use the Falchion Yep that is the way I am doing this. I have the story pretty much laid out, and opening scene as well. Certain scenes too. Just trying to find actors to fit age profiles, and what I know about them as well (types of roles they have played, who they have worked with before...).....

I'm sure my story is going to be riddled with plot holes, and while I've done a lot of research there's sure to be things in the canon that either contradict my story or make it a flat out impossibility. At the end of the day though this is just for fun, and I've had a blast doing it.

Maybe I have a misunderstanding of how the game works, but I understood it to work like so:

    Cast/Crew rounds of picking.
Once the rounds are done, a SINGLE cast and crew is voted on by cantina folks.

Then everyone pitches their story using the actors available, and then the cantina votes on that.

Now, I'm pretty sure at this point that I've gotten this wrong, and it's just the rounds of cast/crew drafts followed immediately by pitching a story, and THEN the cantina votes (just once).
*shrug* Oh well, either way is fine.

I just read it the other way because that's gamy and brings an obstacle of a challenge to the whole thing, whereas just picking a bunch of cast/crew and writing a synopsis is any given weekend for fanfic hobbies (which is perfectly fine), with the only hiccup being that folks might lose out on a few actors/crew choices by someone picking maybe one or two of their choices. Doesn't seem as big of an obstacle as the other way around where everyone has to use the same cast/crew and come up with a story to pitch that fits that cast/crew.

    Ah well, all good. :)

    @RoyleRancor
Also...exactly how detailed are we expected to go with the PITCH?
A pitch in the industry is usually a logline and a synopsis, fin. It's called a one-sheet.
    It looks something like this:

You don't actually write "ACT 1, 2, 3", but that's the basic layout.

    For example, Jurassic Park.

You don't usually go on to do complex articulations of a draft, or hand over the treatment (a 20 page version of the story) for the pitch.
That stuff comes after you get a bite.

    Cheers,
    Jayson

I understand it the same way @Jayson
I soon recognized that I am limited storywise simply because of the the cast.

We're not professionals here so just do what you feel like you need to do to get the point of your movie across.
The point is more to sell it to your fellow Cantinians

I guess what I'm asking is whether there's an equalizer in length?

It would be a bit odd to have some turn in a 10 page version of a near screenplay outline with loads of detail pouring out and others turn in a paragraph.

Usually creative contests have some kind of equalizing factor rather than a pure free for all.

I only showed the one sheet because it's super simple and keeps it the same for everyone while also giving everyone an easy guide.

    Cheers,
    Jayson

I'm not going to factor length. I think that's simply unfair to people who don't have the time/resources to do so.
This is for fun and quite frankly, that sounds like homework not fun and we're gonna keep it fun.

Keep it on the simpler side because if you make it too long fewer people will take the time to read it.

Ok I was planning an invitation-only pre screening for the entire Cantina, family and friends.....Hans Zimmer and his orchestra will be providing musical accompaniment to the party. Culminating with the unveiling of the extended Trailer, introduction of cast and crew. Oh and a release of pigeons. Is that too much?

Needs more fireworks. Then again, if this is in California, having no fireworks is probably for the best. But I DEMAND Hors d'oeuvre at this party, some so fancy I don't even know how to eat them!

    Discussion time!

Lucy Liu wasn't a surprise pick, but a pick I wasn't sure I was going to put on the draft. Her role was going to be what Jeeja Yanin's role was when had the Jeeja/Brenda Song split. I decided I needed someone a little older and more experienced than Jeeja for the role, and went with Lucy Liu. Lucy, like many of the actors I chose, has the martial arts background I want for this movie and for her part in particular. She's an actress who can do small screen and big screen very well, and is no stranger to the genre or type of role. Besides I think she'll be a good character foil to Dame Helen Mirren.

Harry Shum Jr. is a triple threat. He can sing, dance, and act. Due to this (along with his roles on Glee and in the Step Up movies) he's no stranger to tough choreography. That's the sort of man I want playing my main character - someone who has the physicality to show the audience that he can get things done. I also think his youthful charm will help endear the audience to his plight and struggles.

Has anyone else been fighting the urge to commission concept and/or promotional art? No, just me? Carry on then.

No, but I did design a military-related uniform patch for one of the squadrons in my movie....

I was going to host a mynock roast on Ardennia, but now I'm probably gonna cancel that.

I'm probably going to be doing something pretty similar to this, I like that format. One thing I definitely plan on doing is having a character breakdown, listing all my actors and a brief bio of the character they will be playing.

I might also try to hash out a couple key scenes, a few lines for some key moments. Maybe. Nothing too crazy.

Also, I've got to come clean, my movie is still in conceptual planning. Pre-production might even be an overstatement. :D
So uhhh... how long do we have to put this together??

We'll give people the time they need within reason.
As the draft winds down, I'm open to input on an exact time frame

Agree with @DarthSnow and I will use the template provided by @Jayson as well....but would like to include character/cast info, and a couple other tidbits.

For example I have my opening scene laid out. I also have a couple other cool things I have put together.

To be honest I put the very little sparetime between my home schooling madness and very tough job sprints into some research for the cast.
My daughter (11) helped me out with a first very short and rough brainstorming that we had last week, when I put some first tiny little storypieces together. Therefore my little "screenplay summary" will be quite similar to the paper @Jayson shows in his post above.
