Will Ben Solo be Redeemed?

I dont know .. i want him to so i can see him In other future Star Wars movies as the good guy, but we will see ...

 

I think yes, but I'm also interested in every single outcome.

1) Redeemed, but dead
2) Redeemed and surviving
3) Evil and dying
4) Evil, but still alive

If it's told correctly, then I'm happy either way.

 

I truly hope that Ben will choose to walk away from the dark and towards the light.

whatever he does.. it's his choice now (a choice that perhaps he didn't have while Snoke was pulling his strings), and he has to live with the choices he's made and will make - just like the rest of us.

i'll be devastated if he stays in the dark, but if Ben's commits to that path as what he truly wants.. i will take solace in that.

Him walking towards the light is probably the most intriguing option, because what are the consequences? We probably won't see them though. Maybe him walking into exile or into the sunset at a max.

My favorite character (for now) is Kylo and not Ben. So, I will always stay Kylo Ren.

well, there's 2 reasons why i want it to happen.

firstly.. since the scene on the bridge in TFA, i have only seen him as Ben Solo. I saw Ben Solo using the light side of the force (completely my opinion, so nobody flame me lol) to defeat Snoke. I see him on a path to the light.. much like we saw Anakin on a path to the dark.

secondly.. no matter what ending Kylo/Ben has, a portion of this site will burst into angry flames.
I think Ben coming back to the light AND alive has the smallest fallout. (yes i'm thinking ahead politically.. things have been that bad lol)

I think we saw Ben Solo for four times:
1) on the bridge
2) in the flashback of TLJ (obviously)
3) in the hut with Rey
4) while Rey was tortured by Snoke

The fifth time (in IX) will be the last time #SaveBenSolo

Luke was rocking the man bun too ;D

i do agree with those. the TLJ scenes are fascinating to watch with my warped notion that Ben is now putting in an extreme amount of effort to stay 'Kylo'.

All these movies are supposed to be about the Skywalker family and of course, their story is set amongst a galactic war.

• 1-3: The fall of Anikan
• 4-6: The redemption of Anikan by Luke
• 7-9: The rebirth of the Jedi Order.

So Skywalkers have essentially wiped out all the Jedi (minus some here and there in the comics that survived), destroyed the Sith, and the rebirth of the Jedi Order relied on Luke who failed but because he is a force ghost he can help direct that rebirth and keep it from making his mistakes. Kylo is in an interesting position because he is a Skywalker and because of his dark side journey, he would be in a position to teach others how not to fall down the dark path as he did. He would be an expert on how to not fall to the dark side of the scales and then, of course, Rey would be the light side of the scales. Together they would be a perfect balance to start a new Jedi Order.

 

Well said. Never thought about it but you're right, Rey's character arc feels satisfactorily complete in VIII, like it or not. Not that it will end there, I'm sure it will not. On the other hand, Ben seems to be far more interesting of a character at the moment, because, as you say, it still has room to grow, and no one really knows what will happen with him in IX, which is very good and bodes well for ending the Skywalker saga.

I believe Ben will be redeemed. We have to remember that it was Ben and Kylo on those wonderful and dreadful moments in the bridge in TFA. Such an emotional and beautiful moment, when Ben is being overtaken by Kylo and is so genuinely confused and feeling so vulnerable. The bridge scene is probably my favorite in TFA, and I'm a huge Harrison Ford / Han Solo fan as can get. I totally bought that he was totally torn apart. Then, hate, anger and the dark side won, but that does not have to be the case forever. As others have said, Anakin has killed kids in the past, and he was redeemed. He didn't live, but he was redeemed neverthless. "No one's every really gone", Luke said.

So, I agree that the redemptive arch, of some kind as you say, is the most logical direction for Ben. If he dies or not is to be seen. He will probably die because that would be more final to the Skywalkers saga. Sad that he would be going so young if that's the case. Maybe he lives, or, as third alternative, maybe it will be left open. All these alternatives (lives, dies and ambiguous) have pros and cons. So, it's anyone's guess what will happen, and that's good to increase interest in IX, if you're interested in knowing how Kylo/Ben and the Skywalkers end, of course.

 

We already got that: the one who goes from light to dark with Anakin journey in the PT, the one coming back from dark to light with Vader in the OT. Each of these journeys has consisted on passing "from an extreme" to the "other extreme".
PT is the fall of Anakin.
OT is the return of the Jedi (and that Jedi-who-returns has always been Anakin, not Luke).
ST should now deal with the uncanny Balance.

So, what I hope is Ben to walk is own half-part from dark to "semi-light", and that will ONLY work if Rey does the (opposite) same, a.k.a walk is own half-part from light to "semi-light". And they both meet in the Middle, in the Balance, in the Bendu, both coming from the extremes towards the center.
That is Balance.
Passing alternatively from one side to the other (as Anakin, as Dooku, as Vader, ...) is not balance, it's just void wavering.
