This place is called 'The Cantina' for a reason.

If we are going back to Tatooine, we need more Cantina.

There can never be enough Cantina.

But if we do revisit everyone's favorite sand planet, we'd better see the Cantina.

Sorry, but if you're going to pander to me (with the use of the same planet again....) go all the way. Gimme more Cantina. Throw a damn podrace at me too while you're at it. There, done, bridged all trilogies.

 

I wouldn't mind a scene taking place at a pod race, just not the actual pod race being a main part of the movie.

Maybe Rey likes to bet on pod races.

 

If anything like this guy(s) is in the movie... we're doomed.

What would a new Cantina entail?

Do we mirror the rowdy, badass vibe of the original bar setting?

Or do we create something that consciously avoids repeating the same vibe/tone?

Do we see more of an upscale Playboy club? (Obviously no genuine nudity)

Do we see an underground fight club?

I'm curious whether anyone has an idea on how to establish a meeting place that isn't 'same old same old Hell's Angels hangout in the Star Wars universe.'

I actuallly think that the podracers were one of the good things of the Prequels. Will be fun to se it again, but on another planet ...

 

It was Lucas's chance to give his love to Ben-Hur (one of the first sequences ever done in film was the chariot race from Ben-Hur)

Episode II did give us a somewhat different look at a Cantina, a dingy city club as opposed to a smuggler hang out. I don't know if you can catch the magic of the Mos Eisley cantina ever again but I do want to see some nice bar scenes. Maybe a Casablanca esque bar haha

 

I imagine Tatooine is a different place since Jabba's death? Would Pod Racing still occur without his gangster influence supporting it? Maybe, and I wouldn't mind as long as (as someone else said) it wasn't the focus of the sequence.

The problem I have with a return to the Cantina, and with many of the 'nostalgia' elements that could be featured in TFA is that it could diminish the effect of the Rebel's victory against the Empire to show a Galaxy in which nothing much has changed. To go back and see Tatooine and the Cantina exactly as it was 30 years earlier means our beloved heroes' struggle meant very little, at least to that part of the Galaxy.

Concept art has shown fallen AT-ATs and TIEs on the dunes of (what we assume to be) Tatooine. That means the war reached the Outer Rim, even the planet farthest from "the bright centre of the universe". It won't be the same, and it wouldn't make sense if it was. I imagine if the Cantina is featured at all it will be either run-down and sordid (even by its own standards) or government controlled like some franchise bar.

In want of the Cantina, however, I'd really like to see some sort of restaurant. There have been scenes in SW where people have eaten, but these have either been to facilitate a sense of domesticity (Tatooine homesteads in Eps I and IV), romance (Anakin apple bobbing trickery in Ep II), to parody troupes (Dex's diner in Ep II) or to make a mockery of hospitality (Vader and Fett's "We would be honoured if you'd join us" banquet in Ep V). A formal meal might be interesting, in a classy eatery with waiters and fine evening gowns; perhaps on Coruscant as a compliment to the theatre in Ep III?

Also they have podracing on Malistere very fast, very dangerous.

I read over the post of Mos Espa in Wookiepedia(which is now in its 10th year ).
I didn't remember how the Tatooine settlement was where Shemi Skywalker & young(slave) Anakin were.
Soooo....
For Mos Espa to be a setting in the new film, TFA, makes more sense.
From the drama & intensity of the teaser, I get the strong feeling Tatooine will be either leveled or destroyed fully for whatever reason. I highly doubt Luke Skywalker is behind it but the main villians or bad guys may do it for some purpose.
Id also think the "object" or "artifact" won't just be a hand, a light saber or Vader's facemask. That seems rather simplistic and contrived to destroyed a entire world.

 

Even though Jabba is dead I still would expect the Hutts to have a a strong influence on Tatooine and the major cites full of scum and villainy. Whether the old Cantina or a new one I would want it to be seedy. Given the concept art makes it appear that the war has reached Tatooine and may have ravished the planet, I expect it to be even more run down and dangerous. If it is the old Cantina, as stated previously, it would be cool if it was more run down. It could make the previous version look luxurious.

 

There was a rumor that Han would say, "We're home"... I never thought from the beginning that he would be referring to the Falcon...
