Republic Commando from 2005 is, hands down, one of the best Star Wars games ever made. It was fast-paced, fun, featured cool voice acting and put an interesting swing on the relations between clone troopers (something we wouldn't see again until TCW animated series). The gameplay was superb and felt very non-scriptic.

So, who wouldn't want to see a new Republic Commando game? It would be absolutely amazing to have this sort of game in next-generation graphics.

I really loved this game. The only thing I didn't like were the enemy bullet spunges. To some extent, Battlefront II's campaign is newest iteration of Republic Commando in that it follows the actions of the Imperial Commandos, Inferno Squad, between Return of the Jedi and The Force Awakens.

I'd do like to see a remake of the original republic commando though.

There's a lot of things they could incorporate from the Republic Commando novel series written by Karen Traviss.

All the way up to Order 66 and after, there are so many possibilities.

Agreed about the enemy bullet sponges being an issue. I hate stuff like that.

Otherwise, I think Republic Commando really did have a lot going for it.

I have been waiting for a Galactic Civil War era Commando game for a long time, because Republic Commando created a world with so many possibilities for a sequel.

I always imagined that the first part of Imperial Commando would be the player battling droids with the squad during the Battle of Kashyyyk, and would soon be helped by a Jedi (Luminara Unduli, Quinlan Vos, Tsui Choi, take your pick), where the mission would end victoriously, but just as the Jedi turned their back, we see the Sidious hologram telling us to execute Order 66.

From then on you would be given new Imperial armor and weaponry, and participate in the hunt for the Jedi, and the Rebellion, as well as other extraneous missions, perhaps Rogue One related. As long as EA or whoever develops it keeps what we liked about the first game the same, but adds more cool stuff, then I would buy it in a heartbeat (as well as an HD remake of the original).

Totally agree and exactly why I'm so excited for Battlefront 2.

One thing I'm still unsure about and can't find any confirmation of; we're playing as a member of "Inferno Squad" and they're all apparently focal characters in the game, but is there actually any squad-based game-play in the single player campaign? Will the other members of the team actually be fighting alongside us (and hopefully require in-game orders)?

I didn't realize until recently that an Imperial Commando game was actually in progress (going as far as to actually have a trailer) until recently. I always thought it was just theorized.

cawatrooper, that's an awesome trailer. I haven't seen it until now. It kind of looks like a survival horror game (something I wouldn't mind seeing in a SW game).

I'm afraid that's just the trailer for the original Republic Commando, as far as I'm aware Imperial Commando never left the concept-art stage.

Ah, that makes sense. For some reason, someone showed it to me when discussing Imperial Commando, and I thought that's what it was.

Disappointing that this, along with so many others, is yet another incredible sounding Star Wars game that got left in the dust,

No worries, easily happens, and I'm as disappointed as you are we never received the sequel. I'm delighted that BF2 is promising to offer an Imperial-aligned FPS single player experience that's a reasonable alternative to the unreleased Imperial Commando, but I can't deny I find it so frustrating that at a time when Star Wars has hit an era of total retro pop-culture cool, that we're so limited on games; Lego or Battlefront, that's it. Whilst when it was divisive and although-still popular, it was arguably a geekier and less lucrative franchise, we were spoilt for choice with games. It's just so annoying. As I've said before, Battlefront is having to provide the sole mature Star Wars gaming experience for all fans of Dark Forces, Rogue Squadron, Rebel Assault (admittedly only enjoyable for its FMV, with an emphasis on *at the time*, but you know, it was great at the time), X Wing & TIE Fighter, Bounty Hunter, Republic Commando, The Clone Wars etc etc. and yet now we're waiting 2 years between lone singular instalments. I'm all up for gorgeous games that promise to be true to canon but why can't we have some other different Star Wars games in between? We're getting a movie every year and a solitary real game every two years? The first of which had no story whatsoever? What happened to games being the medium of unrestrained expansion? They're meant to be the commercialised product that fills in the gap between movies, yet the movies are more regular than the games. Battlefront may be the best sounding and looking Star Wars game ever, but without something real to sink our teeth into, it just feels so empty no matter how delicious its graphics and sound effects may be and it's been a loooooong wait for BF2.

And I know I've not made any sort of intelligent post, I just wanted to rant. Sigh.

I think it would be so cool if Sev survived and became part of the Rebellion.

I think that was an actual idea by Lucasarts at one point, but I'm not sure.

That was actually a pre-alpha cinematic trailer, not for a sequel, but for the original Republic Commando. I always loved the DC15 carbine style weapons in this trailer and was quite annoyed when they exchanged them for the modular weapons in the final release.

Why not call the sequel : “Republic Commando 2: The Republic Goes Commando”?
