Nominations for the TV categories in the Critics Choice Awards have been announced, and Star Wars has two reasons for celebration. The recently-wrapped first season of Andor has been nominated as one of the Best Drama Series of the year, and its lead actor, Diego Luna, has landed a Best Actor nomination as well.

The season as a whole will be competing against other TV titans of the year: Bad Sisters (Apple TV Plus), Better Call Saul (AMC), The Crown (Netflix), Euphoria (HBO), The Good Fight (Paramount Plus), House of the Dragon (HBO), Severance (Apple TV Plus), and Yellowstone (Paramount Network). Meanwhile, Diego Luna will go up against Jeff Bridges (The Old Man), Sterling K. Brown (This is Us), Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul), Adam Scott (Severance), and Anthony Starr (The Boys).

This is the first of probably many awards bodies to mention Andor among their best-of-the-year picks, now that 2022's awards season is underway. While the main TV awards gala, the Emmys, will not happen until next September, industry guilds tend to announce their favorite shows and movies through the end of the calendar year and at the beginning of the next one. Andor could be a solid candidate for nominations by the Writers Guild of America, the Screen Actors Guild, and perhaps even the Directors Guild of America (all to be announced on Jan. 11).

The Critics Choice Awards ceremony will take place on Sunday, Jan. 15, and will be aired on The CW. A second and final season of the series is now in production in the UK and is aiming for a late summer or early fall 2024 release. You can check out Josh's review of the Andor finale here.
