    Confession: I really love the music in the sequels.

    To me, some of the new themes--especially Rey's, Kylo's, and Jedi Steps--stand with the great Star Wars themes of all time. Force Awakens is one of the only soundtracks I listen to by itself. John Williams absolutely still has it.

    So open question: What's the best of the new musical themes from Williams?

    I have to say Rey's theme. It's different for Star Wars, but still distinctly Star Wars. It takes me right back to my experience in the theater whenever I hear it.

    For me it's Rey's theme and March of the Resistance tied at the top.

    It's hard to go against Rey's theme as the strongest one out of the bunch. :) Honorable mentions: Kylo's theme (perfect in its simplicity - not as easy to write as it sounds), Jedi Steps, Ahch-To theme (I wish this one was more developed).

    Yes! I had chills while these themes were playing, especially with the visuals at the same time. A lot of people seemed to dislike the Resistance theme because it sounded more fitting for bad guys, but I have to disagree. It was a nice mirroring of the Imperial March <=> March of the Resistance.

    I also really like Kylo's theme

    Initially I didn't like the Resistance theme, because it sounded too... carefree. :p But it grew on me. Not among my favourites, but it's OK. After TFA I had an impression that it's not a very useful theme, because it seemed kinda one-dimensional. But I was wrong, because TLJ had a few very different renditions of it that I really liked.

    And another cool one plays right before Holdo says "Godspeed, Rebels."

    No, that's clearly the Resistance theme. You may be referring to the "Holdo's Resolve" melody that plays as the escape pods take off leaving Holdo behind. And, on a side note, I actually don't consider it to be Holdo's theme, but rather a sort of "desperation theme." ;) But I guess that's debatable.

    Oh, and there's also an interesting rendition of the Resistance theme in the middle of "Admiral Holdo" track from the FYC soundtrack. 0:33, to be exact. It's very similar to the one I mentioned in my previous posts.

    I'm tone deaf when it comes to music but I really like Poe Dameron's theme. It is suitably heroic and just pure old fashioned Williams. I hope Finn finally gets one in IX so all the main characters have their tune.

    Voted Jedi Steps, because that's what I remember listening to on repeat right after I saw the movie. Close second is tied between Rose's theme (one of the most identifiable pieces in TLJ, which honestly didn't impress me overall the first time I watched it) and Rey's theme.

    “Rey’s Theme” is definitely my favorite. I love “The Spark,” too, but that heavily incorporates some of the Original Trilogy music into it, so if we’re going for entirely new compositions, I’ll go with “Rey’s Theme.” The entirety of The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi soundtracks are (unsurprisingly) incredible, though.

    Rey's theme. Hands down. Rey's Theme and the Imperial March both have this three-note motive that is repeated several times- the same melodic motive but in slightly different rhythms... It doesn't get any cooler than this, does it?

    Great thread! Rey's theme all the way.....followed by Resistance theme. Best goosebumpy part with Resistance theme was "Incoming at two eight point six" in TFA

    Since this thread is restricted to ST themes, won't discuss R1 which was great, and SOLO, which was magnificent and > than any ST theme
