SPECULATION Black Cloaked Figure?

Well we have inquisitors in rebels, so we know they exist now. This hooded guy could be an inquisitor cameo reporting to Palpatine, hence his Royal Guards being there. I know it kinda looks like a bacta tank but it may be something else he is in, or just a directional light column over his throne.

 

Not exactly. She used a lock of his hair to create a talisman, an effigy of Dooku, and used it like a voodoo doll on him and nearly killed him.

 

Just considering the other possibilities about that hooded figure:

Darth Maul - Actually not a bad idea but i guess the death defying Maul will be kept on the TV Shows
Mendelsohn's Character - Well despite he has a cape and the light tricks migth make him seem dark, he doesn't have hood but so far i don't know enough about this character to make a solid position
Plagueis - Wait, nobody stated the Hooded is Plagueis yet?

But i would like to share some new toughts on this for your appretiation:

Might the Hodded Figure be "MARA JADE" ? That will definitelly would bring some light into Rey's parents and timeline here is not impossible.

The figure in the Bacta Tank could be a "Palpatine's Clone", yes i also loved Dark Empire, that would immediatly establishes who Snoke really is.

Could the hooded figure just be an Inquisitor, tying up Rogue 1 and Rebels?

On one side note i believe Darth Vader will Kill/Destroy the entire Rebel Team of Rogue One, wich wouls support the fact that those characters aren't with us in A New Hope.

 

Maybe... It's Brother/ Sister 1-4 or 6?

Easy, if Palpatine had Clones has a way of escaping death, then Snoke should be a Palpatine clone, a decaying clone explains Snoke's deformities.

Don't get me wrong, I believe your theory is plausible, I just think it is unlikely.

I rather like the idea of a more ancient evil not tied to the Sith being the antagonist in this trilogy.

 

They have included a clone of Palpatine already in the new canon (Star Wars Annual # 1).

Maybe. As long as the inquisitor(s) don't do the flying lightsabers I'm OK. (LOL)

 

Nope, as far as I know, there’s no clone of Palpatine so far in the new canon. The "Emperor" assassinated by Eneb Ray in “Star Wars Annual #1” was just a (none force sensitive) body double, not a genetic clone.

Also “Aftermath” points out that old Palp was using simple body doubles time and again.

 

That and we have also seen some sort of being with a holovid for a face that projects what someone is trying to pass off as Palpatine.

 

I doubt that they go the "clone of Sheev" route myself. And Pablo Hidalgo has already said flat-out that it isn't Snoke either.

 

About the cloaked figure, it's none other than:

Could the thing in tank be 'The Force Tree' that Palpatine stole from the Jedi Temple in Corussant? It was mentioned in Luke and Shara Bey's quest to retrieve it. Palpatine kept the force trees (2 of them) in hidden lab for some sort of experiment, could it be?

I guess the Red Guards could be guarding Vader. Palps would probably view Vader as one of his most prized possessions anyway, so if they guard Papls possessions that could fit? Was it in the novel Dark Lord - The Rise of Darth Vader where it mentions Vader suffered a lot of necrotic tissue that had to be dealt with?

My first respnse to that theory, is 'ew, no way', but after trying it on, I do kinda like a few things about it. For starters, Palpatine is one of my favorite characters. But Palps was like the quintessential Sith, no way he would have been into any of that Light/Dark mix hooey. Though it would explain why Snoke's so anti Luke. Pablo has commented that Snoke is not in Rogue One, and it's a stand alone blah blah blah, so ultimately, I don't think this theory will hold out. But I liked it nonetheless.

As a side note, it kinda anoys me that they don't tie all the movies in in a bigger way, like giving some peeks into Snoke's back story. I kinda understand why, you want to keep the big reveals for the ST, and it gives more creative freedom to the gurs doin the ST, as nothing about Snoke is locked down into film cannon. Surely though, there's a way to do it more, but in clever and subtle ways. The media cross overs and the extended tie ins of this wonderful universe, that's the point of difference for me that puts SW above other fandoms.

I do somewhat agree but Rogue One isn't the film to give Snoke character depth. I could see Snoke getting his own anthology film or possibly featuring in another. But either way, I'm glad Snoke won't be in R1.

What's important to remember is we have years of Star Wars Canon coming. Patience is key.

 

What if the cylinder the cloaked figure is paying respect to, doesn’t hold a person but something else - Could it be some kind of vault containing something like Sith artifacts, such as Palpatines Sith-Holocron collection?

That would also explain why the royal guards would be on guard duty. Since the Lando comic we know that they do not only guard the emperor, but also his most precious possessions.
