I'll admit to being slightly disappointed in this episode. It just felt too 'monster of the week'-ish, similar to the way that programs like 'Supernatural' run. There was essentially no momentum in this episode; you could skip it entirely, I think, and next week's episode would make perfect sense. That's bound to happen in a weekly series from time to time.

That doesn't mean the episode was without its high points. The way Chopper essentially screamed 'CHARGE!' and came in guns a' blazin' was hysterical. There was plenty of comic relief, and it's not like the episode feels disjointed. A lot of folks are talking about how powerful Ezra is; if anything, I think this episode demonstrated distinct limits on his power. He's able to use the force, but it's a struggle. He's able to grab his lightsabre, and only just able to stop Hondo from flying out the airlock, which I think is a nice demonstration of just how far he has to go. If anything, his accomplishments with respect to the Force are much more substantial in the presence of Kanan, which reinforces the point that Ezra works better as part of the team.

My hope is that this episode served as a sort of introduction to Hondo, and that they intend to use him in a more significant role down the line. I really feel like Ezra's character development here was minimal, though Chopper definitely gets a round of applause.

I think that the beginning of this season will set up a lot of new characters. We have already met Rex and the other clone troopers, the Seventh sister and the Fifth brother, Hondo Ohnaka, and we will perhaps meet some others. We will probably also get some more backstory to Hera, Sabine and Zeb, who received little attention last season. Maybe we will also get to know what Ahsoka Tano has been doing the last 15 years or so. In the second half of the season, these story lines and characters will then converge.

To me, "monster of the week" is when...well the heroes fight a different villain every week. Smallville had this issue for a while. This episode was all recurring characters. If you just meant that it was a filler episode...I'm not sure if I agree with that either.

You are right that you could easy skip it and it would affect future story telling much (potentially, we don't really know how many of these plot threads will come up again), It paid off a story beat from last season.

It would've bugged me if they never followed up on "vizago's favor". Saving vizago gave ezra a chance to settle his debt without being pressured into a morally dubious adventure by the crimelord
