    Something that we often forget is that C-3PO is a Skywalker. The maker was Anakin, so from a certain point of view, threepio is Luke and Leia's brother. As referenced in the C-3PO comic, even though his memory was erased, he still has fleeting memories of his earlier life. What if he has put 2+2 together to believe he is the chosen one? What if he became Snoke. Let's look at the evidence:

    Both characters saw the rise and fall of the empire.
    Both had access to Ben Solo to corrupt him and turn him to the dark side.
    Both have a thing about wearing gold. And are also into red. Snoke's arm could be said to be the Praetorian guard, who are red. Threepio had a red arm in TFA.
    Snoke is obsessed with the dark side and the light, threepio had a master who turned to the dark side and a master who was of the light yet came close to the dark.
    Also, threepio heard that the dark side could help save the ones you love from dying and he thought that might help Artoo.
    Note Snoke never seems to get angry. Threepio's programming prohibits that. All he really wants is to please both his masters.

    C-3PO has left arm replaced by....err . spare droid arm,which just by coindidence happens to be...err. let me see,ok... Red.....aaand Snoke have left arm lower and obviously damaged., and loves red by no doubt....

    In the original trilogy he can use fluently 6 million lines of communication .
    In the sequel trilogy he uses 7 million.(I guess in prequel trilogy he used 5 million)
    So he was updated.
    It's maybe not anymore against his programming to impersonate a (evil) deity?
