LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the Felicity Jones pick.

Like Edgar Ramirez but am only luke warm on Paul. He was good in breaking bad but as a whiny, little biatch. It would have to depend on his role but I don't see Paul as some badass bounty hunter.

Here's a little video from MTV talking to Felicity Jones about her "involvement" in the new spinoff.

I keep picturing a Guardians of the Galaxy type movie but set in the Star Wars universe. That's my hope for this film.

100% agree with the Paul assessment. It seemed like no one else was caught off guard by him being cast as either Han or a Han Solo type. Hell, even Cranston has a bigger sack..

Aaron Paul looks as much like a young Han Solo as John Boyega.

    Edit:
    Exhibit A:
    Aaron Paul - 5'8"
    Harrison Ford - 6'1"

I never got the impression that Paul was being considered for Han Solo or a Han Solo type role. Just that he may have been under consideration for a role in one of the SW spin-off films.

Based on rumors on the Star Wars 7 News front page today, I've got an idea regarding the role Aaron Paul is rumored for:

If in TFA Max Von Sydow is an elder Boba Fett, who at some point in the past took over the Fett mantle from the prequel version of Boba Fett, and if one of the spin-off movies will focus on this rebooted origin of Fett -- then I think the rumor of Aaron Paul attached to a role in the spin-off is for the role of this new Fett, not a young Han Solo.

In other words, Aaron Paul might be cast as a younger Sydow. Just a thought...

I bet you that no one will have problem with the role of Fett, who happened to be played by a non-white actor, being played by a white actor.

You are ignoring the part of the rumor that
the original Fett is killed by another bounty hunter who takes over the mantle of Boba Fett. Sort of a Dread Pirate Roberts type thing
so any change in ethnicity or gender would be accounted for.

Pablo Hidalgo officially deconfirmed that theory, and reiterated that the Boba Fett you hear in The Empire Strikes Back has the voice of Jango Fett, whom Boba was clone from. Of course, that could mean that the Boba Fett in Return Of The Jedi is an impostor, given that he has a completely different voice (and it'd also explain why he went out like a punk).

Also, I really doubt that Boba Fett is in Rogue One. It's a war movie, and the Empire only hires PMC-esque groups when they need special tasks done that can't be accomplished by other Imperial bureaucracies (since the Empire is frickin' huge). They hired Bounty Hunters to assist with a manhunt when their own forces weren't able to catch the Millennium Falcon on their own. A New Hope shows that they were perfectly confident that they could regain the Death Star plans without need of hiring Bounty Hunters.

Absolutely. I don't necessarily believe the rumor. Although I do sort of like the idea of Fett being a mantle and not a person.

I just thought it was worth pointing out, before we get up in arms about this rumor white washing Boba Fett (something I'd normally be the first to criticize), that the rumor itself would have the new actor playing a different character under the name Boba Fett.

That is very contrived and ridiculous, and you know that if Fett were to be turned into a BLACK character because of a reason like that, fandom would explode in indignation. Lets be honest here, there is definitely a double standard when it comes to these things.

There is a huge double standard I agree, although I don't think its really relevant here. And this idea is contrived but I don't think for the reasons you are implying. Its a contrived attempt to rescue a popular character from a backstory that many didn't like. To replace a mediocre actor with a better one and to be able to reclaim the Boba Fett from what AotC did to him (which was make him boring).

Regardless, getting upset about Aaron Paul playing Boba Fett is silly as it was only speculation in this thread and not even an actual rumor let alone a legitimate one. If Fett were to be rebooted, we don't have any clue who would be playing him. The character being tied to MvS is reddit BS at this point. So getting upset about a hypothetical race-swap seems like a significant waste of energy. If Boba was replaced, there is nothing to say at this point that he couldn't be race or even gender swapped(or gasp: Both!).

I have no problem with Fett being played by any color or gender. I was just making a point about the reaction that it would elicit. I just find it very interesting. A question that I was thinking of is if the actor that was playing Finn were white, would there have been the same reaction to him being stormtrooper, even though the character that all the clonetroopers were made from was played by a non-white actor? I would say that most people would not have had a problem with it at all. Maybe you have a different opinion on that. :)

People are people. Like anything else there would be a variety of reactions for a variety of reasons. Some might react negatively for racial reasons. Some might react negatively because they think stormtroopers are clones (which they are not, which is why there is no continuity issue with Finn being black).

Point i was making is that there is no story based reason to make "new" Fett or Finn for that matter any race or gender. How people react negatively or positively to whatever race or gender they choose is determined by a variety of factors. In many cases it could be due to bias unfortunately. But as I can't get inside people's heads, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt unless they give me reason to otherwise. As I've discovered in my months here, if someone's reasoning is racially motivated they generally show you either subtly or not so subtly in their comments on a great many things over time.
