    Seriously now... there's some pretty good stuff there.
    Masked Kylo Ren in the Snoke chamber for instance. I never would have thought that was CGI.



    I really only dislike the bit where it is stopped by the cables. That looks weird to me every time I see it.
    I think a slower start up, where it gradually just tears away from the cables would have looked better.
    If they wanted to spend more time in the hangar, come up with something involving the control room blocking their escape by raising some kind of shield or something, and having to destroy stuff to escape.

    That's some extremely impressive blending of practical and CGI, as is usual for JJ's work. It's pretty seemless overall.

    Funny how a lot of those who had vilified CGI and VFX for so long are now defending TFA's usage of them feverishly like JJ and purist fanboys. It's both ironic and hypocritical :rolleyes:

    [And yes, I'm sure one of you will reply back to me with a "but they used both practical and CGI and it blended well. It was the perfect marriage of effects" type of rebuttal which is great and all (the movie looks good after all) but my point still remains :cool:]

    i'm firmly of the opinion that a BLENDING of practical effects and CGI is a key to success... i'm tired of the twisted mindset that is practical > CGI.. this is star wars. it will have thousands of CGI shots, but when they are blended properly with practical effects, the outcome will be excellent. anyone here who is "disappointed" about some things being CGI that they thought weren't, should be having the opposite reaction.

    I love CGI, you can do amazing things with it, build worlds, create amazing battles, characters......

    but CGI is like any special effect is just a tool for film makers to use, and when it's done well you shouldn't think about it, it's just part of the film. but when it's done badly it takes you out of the story.
