Characters of ‘Star Wars: The High Republic’ — Meet the Mother

The official Star Wars YouTube channel has started back up its 'Characters of the High Republic' video series. We've already met Jedi Zallah Macri and learned a little bit about the mysterious group known as the Path of the Open Hand -- theirs is a community focused on upholding the way they think the Force should be wielded, which is that it shouldn't be controlled at all, especially by Force-sensitive beings like the Jedi.



A new video has been posted, showcasing the leader of the Path of the Open Hand, simply known as the Mother. Check out the video below:

The Mother, whose real name is Elecia Zeveron, was introduced in Tessa Gratton and Justina Ireland's recently released young-adult novel Path of Deceit. As the leader of the Path of the Open Hand, she sends out her 'children' to seek out artifacts that have the potential to harm the Force so they can be kept away from more dangerous hands. Her worldview and actions come into direct conflict with the Jedi who come to Dalna investigating missing artifacts. But what the Jedi don't know is that the Mother has plans to board the still-under construction Gaze Electric and take the message of the Path far beyond Dalna.



Phase 2 of the High Republic publishing initiative takes place 150 years before phase 1, and these videos are a great way to introduce casual readers to what's going on. This phase of storytelling has the goal of fleshing out more of the Star Wars galaxy as we know it. However, things are starting to unravel in this relatively peaceful time.
