Ahsoka finally introduced live-action Grand Admiral Thrawn to the Star Wars galaxy, and he's here to stay. Dave Filoni had teased earlier this year that he would be set up as the main villain of the New Republic-era stories. Now, he doubled down on that.

While we still don't know when he'll appear next, Filoni teased that the threads that have been set up this year will be followed up soon. Speaking to Empire Magazine in their end-of-year review issue, Filoni (who was recently promoted to Chief Creative Officer) hinted that they didn't introduce Captain Pellaeon in The Mandalorian for nothing. Pellaeon was Thrawn's right-hand man in the Heir to the Empire trilogy, and he'll be sitting next to the Chiss leader soon:

And there's more, even. As Star Wars: Rebels fans may remember, Thrawn's main rival from the Ghost crew was Hera Syndulla -- even if he had individual confrontations with each one of them. While Hera didn't play a large role in the second half of Ahsoka, Filoni teased that a rematch between her and Thrawn could be in the works:

Lars Mikkelsen also spoke to Empire about his thoughts on the character, and what he thinks his main motivation is at this point. He said:

It's unknown when these storylines will be revisited. Ahsoka hasn't been officially renewed yet, and Thrawn could pop up in The Mandalorian season 4, for all we know. All things seem to be setting up the big finale coming to theaters in the near future through the film Dave Filoni will be directing.
