I saw it three times already and paid close attention to Driver. Did he deliver? For me I see the character as still young and confused which is where is rage comes from. His youth. If you have kids you'll know what I mean. They go through that period. I think he delivered and is more evil than I thought he was.

I saw a bunch of deleted scenes recently from the originals. No music, just some people pretending on stage, no music, no sound effects. Just two or three people, trying to deliver. I thought of this when Ben was trying to get the information from Reys mind. How can you do that without music!!! Hats off to them. Acting cant be easy.

The other part that killed me was when he asked his father to free him but really was asking if it was ok to kill him so he could be free of the "good" things that was holding him back. Han didnt see it. He thought he was asking to be free from the dark, but he was asking to be free from the light.

Drivers facial ticks during that scene was great. Deadly and focused.

His performance in the woods wounded and full of rage. Fantastic.

I couldnt get much when he and Rey were locked sabers on the edge of the cliff right before she summons her force power to battle him.

I wasnt sure what he was thinking. It was like he wanted to see what she could do. I think he still thought he had it won.

Im also glad he doesnt look like your typical cover model. I like the fact that he has a big nose and elongated face. Watching his eyes most of the time I think he delivered. I have a new man crush LOL.

    Thoughts?

There's really no need for the 'no' and 'kinda' options in the poll tbh.

I hated everything about Ren as I was watching and immediately after I left the theatre. After taking the time to reflect, he has (in my mind) become one of the strongest elements of the movie. I disliked the petulant child act but now that I understand it as a basis for the character's actions, I can't believe Driver's skill at delivering. I can't wait to see it again.

He arguably had the most difficult job in the movie because the Kylo Ren character was going to be in Vader's shadow both in the story and literally in the audience's expectations. He blew it out of the water. A close second would be Daisy Ridley who needed to be our new Luke and she smashed that as well, but it's easier to be the sympathetic character and much tougher to be the "interesting" character so Driver gets the slight edge.

Upon my third viewing, I am equally as anxious to find out what happens to Kylo Ren and Rey. Every one of the new characters worked. People at all my viewings loved Poe, Finn, Rey and Kylo.

Not gonna lie, one of my biggest fears going into the film was that he wouldn't fit the role. Now I feel dumb for even thinking that he wouldn't pull it off! Helluva performance!

He was basically doing what Hayden Christensen was doing in the second half of ROTS, but he was doing it a million times better. If someone like him had played Anakin, maybe the prequels wouldn't have been so blast.

So nice to have a villain as deep as Kylo Ren. He's conflicted, from joining the dark side, because the light is still calling to him. That's something we haven't really seen before, and it is such a good piece story telling.

Obviously, Darth Vader, the most iconic villain in movie history, is great, but someone like Kylo Ren, was a much needed change of pace, and fit in great with this movie.

(Kinda reminded me of Killgrave from Jessica Jones, another fantastic villain)

And I sat there and was like: wait, do you really believe that your parents are on the side of the bad guys?

It was just so real...all of it.

Co-Worker came in this morning, beaming with happiness. Had seen TFA just last night.
We chatted a little and I was like "How good was Adam Driver, tho?"
    His answer?
"Dunno.... he was kinda lots of emo and lots of ugly."

Then I had him look up normal shots of Adam driver and he about fell out of his chair.
I think the only thing to convince him that was the same person was the nose.

yep, I think the best villains are the ones you kinda sympathize with though Kilgrave was a big a-hole David Tennant made him likeable. Same with Ben, I should hate him for what he has done but I just can't.
Both are well written and well acted characters with much depth

Adam Driver did portray the "young naive angry apprentice villain" character well. Nailed it. But thats a response to the question did Adam Driver act his part well. I do have a different opinion of the Kylo Ren character though....

As for Snoke... well, Lucasfilm need to go back to the drawing board for him. I didn't feel any kind of threat or menace from a cgi generated giant hologram that has a big Voldemort vibe about it. ;)

Did you honestly feel that the Emperor was much of a threat in ANH?

Emperor wasn't in ANH. First appearance was TESB. And yes, that appearance was much better than Snoke's was because he was real human actor and felt real.

I was somewhat worried before-hand how they'd handle Ren, particularly when he was unmasked, but I think Driver's performance was excellent. Like you said, he was spot-on in portraying a role in which he was somewhat torn and confused, still summoning up his will to follow the path he felt was correct. And he did it without seeming like a whiny teenager/young person, at that.

As for his bout with Rey and the locking of sabers and what he was thinking, I got the feel that he was actually still a bit conflicted, even after killing his own father. Almost like he wanted or even needed someone to follow fully down that path with him, not necessarily to give him support in a possible overthrow of Snoke, but almost like moral support to make him sure he was following the correct path.

I still get the vibe this trilogy may be a redemption of Kylo Ren/Ben Solo in the long run.

Driver definitely delivered! He did the best he possibly could.

My only problem with Kylo is immersion for the character, nothing else. The problem that Driver looks like Driver. He does not look at all that he have the genes of Harrison and Carrie, Han and Leia.

That aside, Driver nailed it and convinced me in the character I usually wouldn't buy at all by just looking at his picture.
