Hey everyone. I was on facebook conversating about TFA and one facebook member mentioned the possibility of a gravestone to the left of Luke in the final scene. Has anyone else noticed this? I truly look forward to hearing your thoughts on this one.

I did. A lot of folks are speculating that it is possibly the final resting place of Rey's mother, but I had the thought it might be a memorial for Rey herself. As in, there's no body there, because he lost her far away but wanted a place to go and remember her.

Then he turns around and there she stands, older, alive, breathing, holding his father's saber. At first, Luke might think he's seeing ghosts again.

Well we're not sure falling in love and having a child are against the Jedi Code of Ethics. Certainly was in the PT, but in Luke's time? Perhaps not so much. After all, it was familial love that brought Vader back. I do buy into the Luke Daughter stuff myself. As for the gravestone, I didn't and don't see it, but this isn't the first time I've heard it mentioned. Where in the shot did people see it, I wonder. But I don't think its there. The visual language of the film - there's no reason they'd put it there and not have some kind of focus on it. It's too big of a point to just sneakily be put in there.

I heard it's to the left of Luke but don't quote me on that.

It could just as easily be a little memorial for Han. I'm sure Luke would've felt his passing.

I sort of noticed it the first time I saw the movie, but was kinda overwhelmed with everything else going on at the moment, so I just quickly dismissed it as a protruding flat rock.

The second time I saw it, I watched for it specifically. It's a grave stone, very Irish, looked like it had three weathered rounded knobs that once may have been a cross shape (it is Ireland after all).

I'm sure they had many choices of places for Luke to be standing that would look just as epic, but they chose that one for a reason, and I think it's that little flat rock sticking up.

It definitely was a gravestone. I just saw it for the second time today and picked up on the little clues. I think it is someone close to Luke and the pain on his face was very evident. I think Kylo killing Han makes Luke feel even more responsible for Kylo.

I didn't notice one. If it is a gravestone for Rey's mother... yeesh, another dead/absent mother figure?

there is a lot of rocks and stones on Skellig Michael.
The grave of Rey's mother at the "first jedi temple" I think not. possibly a grave but eh I dunno.

Could you make out if there was any writing on it when viewing it on the big screen?

Could be but JJ purposely shot it within the frame.

No, the first time I saw it in real 3D and was so overwhelmed I haven't even noticed it. The second time in 2D, I watched for it, saw it but couldn't notice anything else. Honestly, I always end up watching Luke. :D

Could just be Vader's remains (excluding the helmet, of course). But if Luke's gone all monastic and mournful, it's more likely to be someone who died more recently (and someone who was closer to him). Ugggghhhh... I guess we really are going down Dead Mom Road again.

If Kylo killed not only his own Father but Luke's wife as well, I'm gonna be one serious - I hate Kylo Ren - Fan. It will make Luke's retribution very satisfying but of course I'm walking way out on a limb with this.

That would certainly explain why Leia isn't the one to go after Luke herself. You'd think she'd be on the ship with Rey... but if her son killed his wife, yeah, that would complicate a sibling relationship.

Don't forget he's at the first jedi temple, I don't see any reason why he burying people there when he is in isolation... If anyone, it would be a partner... but I don't think it's a grave at all!

For sure. AWKWARD. If I we're Leia I would be very hesitant about approaching an extremely powerful unstable emotional wreck of a jedi sibling or no sibling. Like oh hey Sis! Force choke in mid air, flings her into the ocean. Lol. No but really. Luke has a heart and I don't feel he would ever hurt his sister like that. However with his level of force ability, I'm sure that due to his emotional roller coaster mind set, part of the reason to seperate himself from others was to protect them from him and not just grief alone.

I saw a man in a well-starched robe and wondered how 'hermit' Luke gets his laundry done.

If this is the first Jedi temple, it could be a grave or memorial to an ancient Jedi. It does appear rather dated, and you would think if it was for Rey or Rey's mother, Luke would have something a little more ornate- maybe, or it could just be a rock.
