all jokes aside though i think its very responsible of disney. millions if not billions of people will see this film, many of the young impressionable minds. I really dont think there are any statistics out on weather their films led to the actual act of smoking but it is a terrible habit, probably best to leave it out. besides its really unnecessary from a story telling point of view.

I'm surprised that this covers Marvel as well.

Will they eliminate the sex and alcohol from Marvel movies as well?

That I doubt very much. Alcohol is generally used for ceremonial purposes, and sex, well, sells. Smoking, on the other hand, doesn't do anything but get you addicted kill you faster.

I wonder if they'll make exceptions for stuff like hookahs and weed or whatever. Stuff that isn't nearly as bad for you.

It's an interesting move. I'm curious as to what the larger result will be, but as far as the movies it is really just removing a minor detail. As long as the world is full of other details to keep me from feeling that something seems off or that the film is relatively empty, I see no issue.

As far as the actors and characters go, it doesn't really change a whole lot. It's like watching one of the many Arnold Schwarzenegger movies in which he's got a big ol' cigar he's puffing on and then watching one of the Terminator movies in which is character never picks up a cigar (I believe) for obvious reasons. It doesn't feel any different or wrong, I simply didn't notice the lack until I thought of it for this.

I will note that it would slightly change the biker scene in the first Terminator, but not to an excessive extent.

You make me wonder... does Disney actually have any films it made that even had someone smoking weed in them? I'm not talking about things they bought rights to later, but something released under their watch.

I mean recently, like 2000 plus.

Interesting. Are they going to ban violence as well? I mean, if we're gonna talk health risks...

Yeah. Nick Fury getting blasted by a thousand Hydra agents seems a bit more hazarous than chewin on a cigar.

No, no, no, you're over exaggerating, they're going to ban car chases because they don't want to promote reckless driving.

And how about all of these snazzy Superhero/Jedi powers? Should Disney really be encouraging children to jump off the garage roof thinking that they can fly/levitate/fall great distances without injury? I mean, great googly-moogly!

I think the caterpillar from Tim Burton's weirdass take on Alice In Wonderland smoked a hookah.

I think you're correct. Hard to remember what is Disney these days and what's not.

Could be that that falls under the exemption category. He's hookah-smoking in the original story I believe, which was inherently part of his mystique, so that could be the reasoning. I take Disney's stance to be more of "we're not going to force it when it makes no difference, and doesn't change the story that much."

I could see them retaining a hookah-smoking caterpillar for those reasons while also simply not showing other things like Tony Stark lighting one up, since it's an inherent difference to the story in one example while in the other it's irrelevant.

Not to mention that there are a few other examples of drug use in Alice in Wonderland, for that matter.
