If you haven't seen the Disney+, Disney Gallery Series on The Mandalorian, check it out. I just watched the one on the score (Episode 7) and Ludwig Goransson, it is superb. I am a huge fan of The Mandalorian score, and this gives great background on Goransson, how he got the job, his interactions with Favreau and Filoni, and how he developed the amazing sound of The Mandalorian.

Goransson went to USC and roomed with Ryan Coogler, the Director of Black Panther. Coogler is friends with Favreau , and talked up Goransson to Favreau, and the rest is history.

When he got the job, Goransson locked himself in a room for a month, and disconnected from everything, except his instruments (several recorders of different sizes), drums, bass guitar, a synth from the 70s, and this huge sound machine that looks like something from a 50s sci-fi serial !!!!! He read the script from start to finish, and used these to create the 5 major themes of the series including the iconic intro when Mando comes through the door the first time in Ep 1. Goransson is so talented, and passionate, and such a lover of Star Wars and John Williams, who was his inspiration to get into music.

Here is Goransson and his sound board, this thing is freaking awesome!

Filoni's doodling on a blank music sheet for the score at the first day of recording with the orchestra!!

I really enjoyed that episode, but then again, I love the score! Goransson seems like such a neat person. I'd like to sit down with him and see what makes him tick and what ideas he has. Also, I want a flower shirt just like his. ;)

Yes his shirt was mesmerizing! Such a freakishly talented person, the passion he has for music is inspirational. Would love to meet him, and John Powell. I want both of these guys in the Star Wars musical scene post-Williams!!!

Yes, I keep going back to the Solo soundtrack too if I want something orchestral but slightly off the beaten path. I love Powell's unique percussion sounds. Will sign on for future Powell stuff too. ;)

The story of the Mando theme almost sounds like a dare. It's like, "hey Goransson, you're an accomplished composer and you've just been tapped to score the first ever STAR WARS show. Wouldn't it be hilarious if you like composed the music on a recorder?? lmao."

And then he totally did and it was mind-blowing.

I completely agree! (hmmm, what's this site's equivalent of a 'thumb's up emoji?) is it this? ----> (yoda)

The main theme is one that continues to grow on you over time. It's comparable in quality to some of Williams' old SW classics.
