    I personally think Mauls appearance/resurrection in Clone Wars proves that he does regret his decision.

    I don't know whether Lucas is regretting his decision or not, but for my part I would have used (a better and a deeper version of) Maul as the main antagonist of the PT. => Maul is the main baddie in the first two movies, then he gets killed off like Dooku.

    It might be an unpopular opinion but I'd prefer it if Maul stayed dead. His resurrection is one of the most far-fetched things in Star Wars ever. And I don't agree it would be better to keep him alive instead of introducing Dooku. Dooku is a vastly different character, who was essential for the whole political/war plotline. I can't imagine Maul taking that role - he wouldn't be Maul if he did.

    I don't think he ever regretted it, but I guess he bought maul back mainly because he became a very popular character.

    Well he didn't die in TPM, Lucas must have had the return in the works & was picking the right time to release him back into the galaxy.

    I agree. I never saw the point of Maul being revived for "THE CLONE WARS". Frankly, I thought his revival was rather dumb, considering that Obi-Wan had first defeated him by slicing his body in half.

    I still suspect that many fans wanted Maul around due to the "cool factor", regardless of whether that character would have worked. Besides, Dooku also served well as a foreshadow of Anakin's own fall from grace.

    I agree with you about bringing Maul back from the dead

    However Maul should ahve survived TPM and Dooku just been Count Dooku (not a Sith or Jedi) who was leading the CIS.

    I think that Lucas did regret it. That’s why they brought him back in TCW and Rebels. I’m glad that they brought him back because it shows us all that there was so much more happening in the background during Clone Wars and ANH era.

    Darth Maul was a shallow, one-note villain who was basically an enforcer. I think many fans made a big deal over him because of the "cool factor". Apparently that matters more than actual characterization . . . and in the case of Lucasfilms, ratings for "The Clone Wars".
