Kiner has done excellent work? When? McNeely's Shadows of the Empire is great though.
I know it won't be the end of the world or anything but Star Wars will certainly lose something once Williams throws in the towel. And having other composers simply adapt the previous themes doesn't capture the same magic (as proven by Kiner's dismal score for Rebels).

    Absolutely not.

He's doing Steven's next film, "The B.F.G." in addition to VIII and IX.

I think he's out of the conducting/production side, but I think he'll score the remaining movies. I think there's a high likelihood of a Harry Potter scenario where he lays the main themes, and hands-on composers fill in the gaps for subsequent parts of the trilogy.

I sure hope not, but I think yes. All good things must come to an end, even great and beyond GREAT things like John Williams. The thought of a Star Wars film without John Williams is awful to me, he is irreplaceable....but knowing how Disney is going to milk this until we're sick of it, then milk it until we hate them, then milk it until we are sick of it and hate them, then milk it until we like them again, it's probably true...they'll see it as the show must go on with or without Williams, unfortunately. :(

Maclunkey beautiful post, sir. I would * like * this again if I could.

Even if the movie disappoints in all other areas....John Williams NEVER does. I rest in John Williams' talent, knowing he will blow us all away no matter what the film.

From what I can tell, his health issues didn't really have an impact on TFA... all it meant was that he had to drop out of Bridge of Spies. They've even said that his health issues were "minor" which seems to indicate that things have improved since he had his pacemaker installed.
He probably can't do long flights anymore, or stay on his feet for long conducting sessions, but he still seems to have a few years of actual writing/composing ahead, unless he decided to retire.

Who was responsible for using the confederacy theme during Anakin's attack on the Jedi temple in ROTS? If that was Williams, he certainly disappointed there...

He has now recorded over 3 plus hours of musical score.
Over an hour is not even being used.

Did J.J. and him record extra just in case?
