    SPOILERS:

First of all if you haven't seen
Star Wars Rebels S01 E07 Gathering Forces you might want to go watch it now on the XD app or wait until it airs on Monday.

    SPOILERS: Starting Now...

Ok, so about 4 minutes in you'll notice the inquisitor walks the bridge of the star destroyer. What you may not have seen or didn't pay much attention to was this little guy:
    Screen Shot 2014-11-19 at 4.00.53 PM.jpg

Now if you go back to the post a few months ago that showed aerial shots of the Ep. VII set in London showing a new x-wing:
    black-x-wing-v2.0.jpg

Could this little R2 unit be the R2 unit for this new x-wing?

    UPDATE:

This was posted by Boyega on his Instagram about 5 weeks ago. Seems to be the exact same R2 unit as above.
    IMG_0519.PNG

    SPECULATION:

    Now what could this mean?

These next comments are entirely speculation based on everything circulating around the rumor mill and star wars rebels:
If the 2 are connected, then this would indicate that the rumors about Boyega being a storm trooper are true and that he may in fact defect to the rebel alliance in Ep. VII. I believe that this could be Boyega's R2 unit meaning that this might be our first major parallel between Rebels and 7.

    But wait...

    there is more...

    SPOILERS:
If you haven't Seen Star Wars Rebels S01 E04 Breaking Ranks Turn back now...

    Remember this Kid?
    Zare_Leonis.png

This is Zare Leonis, We learn in this episode that Zare was a cadet at the Imperial Academy on Lothal who, despite joining the Galactic Empire, worked as a spy for the rebels on the planet. Leonis joined the Imperial Academy to discover the truth about what happened to his sister, Dhara, who vanished from the Academy. The Empire claimed that Dhara ran away, but Leonis did not believe their claims.

"I will enter the Academy, say the right things, and succeed. I will learn how the Empire works. I will find Dhara. And I will wait for the resistance to develop, for someone to rebel. And then I will help those rebels bring the Empire down."
    - Zare Leonis

At the end of the episode Zare does not blow his cover by escaping with Ezra and the others because he had not yet found his sister. He was praised and promoted but we do not know his fate beyond that.

Could this character be the young Boyega? If it is it would explain how that R2 unit and that X-Wing match. It would also strengthen the rumor about Boyega crashing his Tie on the planet and Ridley finding him at the beginning of the film, and him explaining how he NEVER wanted to fight for the empire in the first place... I guess we'll find out soon...

That's all I have for now, may the force be with you all.

There was also an Instagram post by Boyega featuring an action figure/model of that exact R2 unit.

On mobile but will try to link it here ASAP.

isn't Boyega a little young to be this guy? i mean, the story in Rebels takes place something like 40 years prior to TFA. good shout on the R2 unit, but not sure Zare is Boyega.

EDIT: the fact that the R2 unit did show up in that tweet AND this episode AND the Greenham shot is pretty Easter Eggy...

Zare would be too old to be Boyega's character... but offspring... maybe.

I agree with you here, possible offspring/relative. Luke, Zare, and Ezra are the same age

Isn´t that a common imperial astromech droid? Don't they all have a similiar paint job?

I already posted this observation about a possible Easter egg in the episode review thread, but felt like this was pretty apropos here too. I noticed that the helmet that the Inquisitor wears when he's piloting the TIE looks an awful lot like the helmet for the likely villain in the concept art for TFA. I couldn't find a good screen capture from the episode, but I found a version from an action figure (I think), but it still has a similarity I think (imagine the eye slit glowing red like it did in the episode).

I had the same kind of thoughts, but I realized that would make Boyega over 60 years old in EP7. I think it may be more likely that this plot point is the source of the rumors about Boyega being a rouge storm trooper.

I subscribe to the theory that Boyega is a spy in the film, perhaps following in his fathers footsteps. That would explain why the imperials are searching for him.

I love the Easter Egg.....but............................how would an Imperial astromech droid match a Rebel X-Wing?

It would be cucumber cool to have a matching fighter/droid set, but....one is like the bad guy side while the other is like the good guy side. SeewhatImean?

Maybe he has an x-wing at the rebel base because he's a rebel spy? Ridley could be on Tatooine waiting to extract him when things start going downhill or his mission is over?

Roger that. I forgot that because two dudes die, an entire system of government fails on the dime. Like at that very moment.

I agree though that at the end of ANH it sure as he11 had the feel like we were done.

I'm just glad that we aren't.

Most interesting and new here is what the OP mentions about The Inquisitor's helmet potentially being the same as the one seen in 'leaked' artwork.

I'm pretty sure this R2 unit was in Return of the Jedi, rolling around on the Death Star II.

A droid's a droid's a droid. Astromech droids are pretty standard whether being used by the Empire or Rebel Alliance or Jedi Order or Clone Army. So fitting in a standard fighter slot shouldn't be a big deal.

By the way - here's the droid in question:

Perhaps the inquisiter survives the rebels era and hides and trains others in the dark side. Since he is not a sith in the only two sense he may just go and gather him sselfsome other darksider and eotherhe or one of his trainees is the big baddie.... maybe something along these lines but at this point who knows what JJ has in store for us. I just knowwe need a super badass villian to match the power of Skywalker and company
