I merged the 2027 thread with this one since they both discuss the same topic. The above "double post" is not a double post but a result of the merge and thus five by five. :p

Lucas's outlines only go to episode ix. it will be the final main saga film but spinoffs will continue ad infinitum

I realize that this is the plan as it stands now, but there's no reason at all now that Disney owns Lucasfilm that they could not conceive and write episodes beyond IX. Also, I think it would be a mistake to assume that only spinoffs are in the future. As I've stated many times in many places, spinoffs that are tangential to the main storyline, the main saga, lack a sense of urgency and importance. IF they are merely backstory and sidestory then the audience may choose to skip them altogether and wait for the DVD.

I think it's generally agreed that the same can be said for Star Wars.

    I personally don't think we'll get X-XII immediately...

Over the next 6 years, we'll be getting a new Star Wars movie every year according to Disney... that really is a LOT of Star Wars. While I believe that each film will certainly be successful, in the eyes of the consumer there does exist the concept of too much of a good thing. I believe Disney knows just how much Star Wars they can squeeze out in one extended period.

Oh don't get me wrong, we'll see perhaps more shows, attractions and spin-offs after 2020, but think of all the hype and excitement which has come with the return of the first EPISODE to be made in 10 years with VII... That wouldn't be there if in 2021 if we suddenly went straight into Episode X. People would be quoting C-3P0...

    "Here we go again."

Disney would be best served to leave the public wanting for awhile before jumping into the next trilogy. Absence makes the heart grow fonder...

Like making copies of paper, VHS or audio tapes; the source material or original WEAKENS & wears out over time.
I know Disney purchased Lucasfilm & Star Wars to make huge profits but if they over-saturate the US market or pump out too much too quick, the brand & the series which 1000s of fans(and new fans) love so much for nearly 40 years will be trashed.
I wouldn't want that to happen & Id hope GL(and his heirs or family) will respect that.
To put out a new Star Wars themed film every 2 years or 3 years is okay with me, IF they have high quality standards & state of the art SFX. If they are lame & cheap, then don't bother.

I have a feeling Star Wars Episodes X-XII are definitely going to happen! Because things are really going to be dark throughout the entire ST since Luke and the Jedi Order might go the dark side. There is going to be a massive armageddon/apoclyptic war in Episode IX and a huge aftermath with more battles ahead for our ST heroes in Episodes X-XII. 2027 is a definite much release date for Episode X-XII since it will be SW's golden anniversary and what better epic project for 2027 would be than for a fourth SW trilogy of Episodes X-XII and there will be a huge demand from fans to see more adventures of our new ST heroes after Episode IX. That of course would be Episodes X-XII perhaps set 10-15 years after Episode IX.

Lucas outline ends at IS he's not IN CHARGE anymore but there not just going to fabricate an unnecessary continuation without him laying the groundwork

If the ST is very sucessful. Then perhaps we can expect the SST(Episodes X-XII) featuring the further adventures of John Boyega's and Daisy Ridley's characters with Episode X to be released as early as 2025, Episode XI hitting theaters on the golden anniversary of SW 2027 and Episode XII with an older Boyega and Ridley passing on the torch to another generation of heroes hitting our MultliPlexes in 2029. I don't care what the Coon says. I think SW Episodes X-XII with perhaps the recently rebuilt Republic and Jedi Order facing a Mandalorian Uprising with a new powerful fleet of Mandalorian warships and starfighters stalking the hyperspace lanes of the galaxy is a must.

I just heard from the Future of the Franchise thread that a SST will definitely happen and will be out from 2027-2031 and maybe loosely based on NJO. Will there be an alien invasion force for an older Rey,Finn and Poe Dameron played by Daisy Ridley,John Boyega and Oscar Issac to confront and defeat in Episodes X-XII? I hpe so. Bring on 2015 and 2027!

It would be absurd for them not to do a fourth trilogy.

I don't understand how or why so many Star Wars fans seem to think Boba Fett or the Mandalorians are so large/have such a dominant influence.
There are approx 1000 known or civilized star systems in the Star Wars galaxy(Imperial Senate).
One race or one system couldn't "take control" or roll over all the others.
Fett is a extremely popular character but the Mandalorians are nowhere near as powerful or capable as some fans say.
Fett was a great warrior & bounty hunter but he's only 1 Star Wars character.

We know though that the Mandalorians had a militant past and during the Clone Wars were trying to reclaim that past. It's likely that they succeeded once the Pacifists lost a Republic support.

Now fast forward 55 years and easy to conceive that they could be building their own small empire in the wake of the Empire losing power and influence.

A confirmation from a source that people are conflicted over (Spoiler Bro). But some of his stuff actually lines up with what we've heard lately.

That being said, it's not confirmed that a fourth trilogy would loosely adapt New Jedi Order.
