Its very simmilar to the Le Guin quote. It obviously was discussed at length by the design team.
So yeah, I think if you imagine 'force sensitivity' or midicholians give you a wider spectrum of force, a deeper pool of potential then it would expand both into light and dark areas. and Ben Solo is wavering into the darkness. and based on these quotes one would assume he has to potential to do galaxy changing acts of good but also evil.

 

Someone (a book reviewer) actually asked the author of Aftermath EE whether Lucasfilm Story Group or Rian Johnson was the source of this paragraph in the book. He replied that he came up with it on his own, but he did run it by the Story Group, and they sort of shrugged and didn't object to it. So this is likely just a detail in the EU material and has no significance for the story in the movies.

 

I think its simillarity to the URsula le Guin quote in The Art of TFA book means that's unlikely to be true. I assume that quote was sent out as part of a design package or something to the crew and creatives. I guess the author could have come up with it all alone, but its hard to tell as that light/dark light/shadow thing has been mentioned a few times by different Lucasfilm creative's.

Regardless I think it better explains the idea that kylo ren has 'darkness' in him than the idea that he was for whatever reason predisposed to be 'evil'. Also it matches in nicely with the idea that Luke thought Ren was a chosen one.

 

yeah, it's not so much that it's a literal correlation, just thematically in keeping with this idea of balance or complementary powers.

you can't have light without dark.
you can't define day without night.
obstructed light does cast shadow.

 

After Disney is finished butchering the saga in this trilogy, GL is gonna make sure his future grave haves enough room 2 spin in it.
