The popularly elected monarch who overthrew bureaucracy, liberated her planet, and committed the entirety of her life to the preservation of freedom and democracy, all while sporting haute couture gowns and immaculate hairstyles.

Her name is Padmé Amidala (née Padmé Naberrie), a.k.a. Lady Skywalker, Mother of Heroes.

Anakin Skywalker... I know he's not one the list yet he technically didn't appear in the OT (until the last 2minutes)

PT exclusive? Hm, tricky tricky. I'm assuming that being exclusive to the PT means TCW is technically not allowed, as it was part of the era and not the actual trilogy. I was kind of leaning towards Bail Organa actually, but if we go with just the films then I'd have to go with another character. (sorry Jimmy)

The difficult part of this is that so few of them lasted more than one film. Jango Fett was cool but quite a bit under-utilized... Mace Windu was in all three films, but like Fett he wasn't utilized as much as he could've been. Darth Maul was a bit too one-sided in the long run, as was Qui-Gon in reality...

I may have to actually go with Dooku on this one, despite some flaws. He at least brought a few more things to the table in a way that made him seem less of a caricature in comparison to the other characters, in my view.

I'm gonna have to say Qui-Gon. I love Maul, and Padme's amazing, but Qui-Gon just brought a whole 'nother side to what it could mean to be a Jedi. Plus he's basically just Liam Neeson, ergo awesome.

I counted exactly two characters I liked in the prequel trilogy, Darth Maul and Qui-Gon Jinn. The death of Maul in TPM stands as one of the big crimes of that film; his role should have been expanded, and he should have had more dialogue to give the story some consistency.

When he appears in the hangar, for example. He's facing a buttload of people with laser guns. Who don't fire at him. The two Jedi "will take care of this", and go into the fight. Nothing here made sense!
There should be some confusion first, because they are not sure if this is an enemy; Qui-Gon should've said something, perhaps. "You again!"
Maul should have attacked right away, and the Naboobs should have fired right away, and Maul would deflect their fire like the demon he is, killing half of the bunch at least. THEN the Jedi could shout "Get out of here!" to the Naboobs. The scene would flow with more logic, and be more tense.
In addition, it doesn't make sense that the Jedi just start fighting him like that.
Wouldn't the necessity to learn more of this dark warrior be more important? Try to talk to him, find out what he is and who he is?
It's not like the Jedi Council told the Jedi anything about the Dark Lords, really.
The craziest thing is that this is one of my favorite scenes in the PT.
It looks like they all are wondering what the hell they are doing. It's so directionless, literally speaking.
And then the insanely epic music, and I'm sitting there feeling there's nothing at stake, just three dudes hitting at each other. The "Duel of the Fates", while incredibly monotonous, is a nice enough piece of art, but the story just isn't there. it's all flash and no substance.
Which is Darth Maul in a nutshell.
And still he is my favorite character in the PT.

Qui-Gon as a good number two because Liam Neeson owned the role and did the best he could with the shoddy script he was given.

Great question since my PT favorites are Palpatine and Obi-Wan (big surprise!) But...I have to break it down by movies.

Phantom Menace-Padme. I think Maul is a great villain visually and he's lots of fun, but I actually loved Padme in TPM. I think that her character is stronger, more interesting, and more developed without the love story. And I have to agree with duckface on this one!

In TPM we get to see her tackle a career in the middle of political chaos, find herself in a strange place with all sorts of unusual characters, and through it all, we see her gentle and intellectual side. I know many viewers don't see Padme as a strong female character, but I believe being a strong female isn't always manifested through kickassery. She was a fourteen year old political machine who was not afraid to take on a bizarre adventure (in disguise) and far away from everything she knew. Sadly, her character development fell flat in the future films.

The Clone Wars- Mace Windu. He's got that cool Jedi vibe that balances bravery, wisdom, and badassery. I love the visual of his character and the purple lightsaber is a nice touch. I wish we got to see more of him. He came across as wise with good intentions, but had a tough and intimidating vibe unlike the other Jedi masters.

Revenge of the Sith- Bail Organa. My first reason is a shallow one. Bail is a fine, fine, piece of ....the senate. But despite the obvious, I loved when he appeared on screen. I enjoyed his connections with other characters and he had a refined gentleman demeanor that made him stand out. I loved the scene when he stops by to help Yoda. Bail strikes me as more of a lover than a fighter, but that doesn't hold him back from the action. Bail participates in the adventure through his influence and intellect.

    And he's hot as Mustafar.
