I always love a good reference to our favorite galaxy far, far, away. Movies and T.V. shows aren't just influenced by Star Wars, but like love to reference it. Many I can remember, but many I have forgotten, or never seen. I'd like to know some of your favorite references to this wonderful franchise.

Here are two of my Favorites:

When I was just a child one of my favorite movies was E.T.. They referenced many characters names from action figures, Greedo, Lando Calrissian, Hammerhead, Walrusman and Boba Fett. To see all the toys in this movie is delightful. Even the imitation of Yoda by Robert MacNaughton was great. The Halloween scene were a kid dressed as Yoda that reminds E.T. of home made me believe, as a child, they were from the same planet. The movie premiered at the height of the Star Wars phenomenon and paid tribute to it very well.

One of my favorite T.V. shows was The X-Files. An episode named Small Potatoes is one of my all-time favorites because of it's Star Wars reference. When a woman gives birth to a child with a tail, Mulder and Scully investigate. When asked about the boys father, the mother replies, "His name is Luke Skywalker, he's what's known as a Jedi Knight". Scully responds "Did he bring his lightsaber". This is one of my all-time favorites.

Saturday Night Live or SNL as it's now called had a classic skit in 1977 where cast member Bill Murray played a amped up nightclub lounge singer who belts out a funny version of the main theme from Star Wars. Watch it on youtube or a older SNL DVD if you can. It's funny.

The "Death Star" scene in Kevin Smith's Clerks(1994) is a hoot & a half. When the "licensed contractor" buts in & adds his remarks is funny. It reminded me of the blue collar & union workers in Pittsburgh/western PA where I grew up. Smith really nailed it with the dialogue.

My favorite reference to Star Wars the scene in Clerks as well, but my second favorite was also delivered by Kevin Smith in Live Free or Die Hard. John Mcclane, played by Bruce Willis, notices a human size Bobo Fett cut out. Kevin, who is playing a hacker, asks him if he is a fan of the Fett. Mcclane tells him with a straight face that he is more a Star Wars fan myself. Funniest scene in the movie.

Kevin Smith is the best at incorporating Star Wars references in his films, Mallrats which is my favorite, comparing destroying the stage to the death star or Silent Bob using the force to retrieve the tape. In the Clerks cartoon showing the force ghosts of Yoda, Obi-Wan, and Charles Barkley was funny.

Another film where Star Wars toys were on display prominently was Poltergeist, another Speilberg movie.

Mel Brooks Spaceballs(1987) is a classic too. Not because of the satire & Star Wars humor but the many other classic films it spoofs too.
If you are a Star Wars fan, watch Spaceballs. It's funny.
The 1990s sitcom Friends had a few Star Wars gags & cosplay.

Man, seeing SW referenced in pop culture is like shooting fish in a barrel -- so many I can't even recall them all now. Great thread topic though! When I think of some I will come back.

Family Guy & Adult Swim's Robot Chicken spoofs are a hoot too.
The RC bit about the guy looking at a condo in Cloud a City & the TV reception being messed up(because Luke is clinging to the antenna :) ) is funny.
The "Cloud City" confrontation between Han, Leia, Chewbacca & Darth Vader/Boba Fett is funny too.

John McClane: [checking out a Boba Fett stand-up poster] Nice poster.
Warlock: What, like you a big fan of the Fett?
John McClane: No. I was always more of a "Star Wars" kinda guy.
Warlock: [Annoyed and disbelieving at McClane's stupidity] A Star Wars kinda guy?!

I watched "The Indian in the Cupboard" just for the Darth Vader cameo shown in the trailers....

I always thought the Artoo and Threepio hyroglyphs in Raider of the Lost Ark were cool.

From the Family Guy Specials, my favorites are. "Great Kid. Don't get Penisy!" and
"I thought they smelled bad....*pant*.........*pant*........*pant*............*pant*........*pant*.........*pant*........*pant*......on the outside."

Also there were always a ton of Star Wars references on Muppet Babies. I loved me some Muppet Babies.

There are a few sly Star Wars bits in the Indiana Jones films. The Shanghai nightclub in Temple of Doom is called Club Obi-Wan, ;) .
Star Wars is a big part of our media & culture.

Great topic. My favorite is in Clerks 2, the verbal abuse between the LOTR fan and the SW fan.
And Jennifer Aniston in the bikini....oh my

I like the early Family Guys when Peter is fretting over his Burger King Star Wars glasses & Brian does the "I am your father!" speech.
It's funny on a few levels. I laugh because Burger King, in 1980, DID have a collector glass series. The artwork was great. The Hoth & Bespin Cloud City scenes were memorable. I didn't like the Yoda/Dagobagh glass because I was creeped out by the Yoda/Luke training scenes. I didn't watch the entire TESB until I was 15 or so. :)

I'm adding the scene I was talking about, in case you haven't seen it. Some coarse language may offend you if you are easily offended.

I actually had a huge collection of these references from TV and movies, course that was back when VCR's were still the standard. I would record them off TV. I think I had like 10 tapes full.

They have become so commonplace it's almost weird if a movie doesn't have them.

Seven - "Just because the guy has a library card doesn't make him Maclunkey Yoda."

Twister - "That's no moon its a space station." as they look at the tornado form.
