This is kind of a dark subject but since a facebook friend and i were debating on it i thought i would ask the Cantina what you think. The question is, can you force someone to commit suicide using the force. Not force manipulation mind you. If Vader can force chock a stormtrooper can he also force hold Han's hand to pull the trigger on himself? for that matter would he be able to force a Jedi to run his light saber through?

i say no way man. its not possible. you might be able to get him to raise his arm but actually pulling the trigger would be tricky. I dont think the force is so precise. besides its way to impractical. what about other ways the force can be used in this way?

    thoughts?

Interesting thought. A couple of views on this...

I think actions like that would requite the control over someone's mind and will, in order to make them do it. Similar to the Jedi mind trick, but in a much more intimate sense. In that respect, I'd like to think that a sort of "Force protection" would spring on itself, preventing such mind-control from being attempted.

Of course you can go the route you mention of just moving their appendages in order to achieve the action... but again I'd like to think there'd be an inherent nature in the Force to protect living things from such manipulation. As for the Force being precise, prohibiting someone from pulling the trigger... I dunno, I could see it happen maybe. Haven't they shown locks being picked using the Force in Rebels?

So either it's a form of mind-control, which I feel couldn't be possible due to natural inhibitions or protections within the Force itself... or it'd be manipulations of the person's bodily parts, which is only really suicide in a sense.

In any case, it'd be a pretty damned evil thing to do, if possible. I couldn't even see Palpatine being that evil.

I suppose if the individual is very weak willed, then sure.

I'm just picturing someone trying to Force choke themselves and loosing grip when they pass out. It's a vicious cycle.

I know my avatar does have something to do with this but Starkiller once used mind trick on a stormtrooper while escaping Kamino forcing it to leap to it's death, Vader once dropped a building on himself during the atoan insurgency, I doubt a jedi or sith would succeed most of the deaths in the novels, etc our either from poison, blaster shots & or leaping to their deaths, I think it is a cowards way out your end being remember as being taken by yourself to live another life in eternal pain.
