A good way to work around that is to make a big gap between TLJ and Ep.IX to be filled in with books and comics later. I would allow to have a lot more ST content overall and make Ep.IX a more satisfying conclusion to much more, then just 3-9 movies. And let Disney make more money, of course.

I’m all for shows and ancillary media like that, and it’s been on my mind since we heard that VIII was going to follow VII up directly. I don’t think we have a name for this war yet - if we have, it’s completely passed me by - so it’ll be cool to finally hear that in the build-up to the film. Man, it’s going to be a fun 18 months.

However, I feel like you’re missing why I’m concerned. I love The Clone Wars, and really enjoyed Rebels. I want more shows like this, I love to read the novels, and I’m excited for Resistance. For us Star Wars fans, we’ll take all that we can get, and look forward to subsidiary materials being released, and so we should.

These shows added depth to what was presented first in the films retroactively; everyone’s go-to example is how TCW fleshes out Anakin, by making his turn much more believable with showing how his relationship with Padmé was strained by the Clone Wars. However, these shows aren’t required to fully enjoy Episode III by any means, and just help fill it out a little more.

My primary concern going into IX is that this film needs to wrap up the sequel trilogy and the Skywalker Saga in a way which is satisfying in film and film alone, because not only are there many that don’t watch/read side materials like we ravenously do as hardcore Star Wars fan, the parts of the Skywalker Saga which are vital to everything that goes on is told here (at least up until now).

What I’m concerned about is not that they can’t tell a story by giving us more side materials, because we know that they can; I’m concerned about whether or not they complete the Skywalker Saga and the sequel trilogy in a way which is satisfying, and doesn’t make us feel like we’ve missed out on things in the first place.

Very nice to see that blurry photo! I'm surprised we got an actual look at Finn's costume - looks cool, reminds me of Han's Corellia outfit. I'm not convinced that's Rey, though. Looks like a crew member in a white shirt.

 

yeah after staring at it for some time, it almost looks like the kind of shirt Poe would wear. still could be Rey though.

 

Let the speculations begin. It looks like in that photo that Finn and Rey are just married and Chewie is their body guard. And Ben is jealous.

It is stuff like JJ is showed today that I hope we get more of. He can keep the plot as airtight as possible but if he gives us little crumbs like this I’ll be happy.
