@TheMF I never thought about this! If current rumors are true, we don't get a scene where the big 3 interact with each other directly in the same space. This further convinces me that we don't have the whole picture yet.

Lucas was written into a corner for the PT. He had to make the story where Anakin falls to dark side, because that's what he is as established in the backstory of the OT.

You can't treat your heroine like trash again with a story like that by making her the villain. That's not what people want. That's an extremely fanboy thing to do, with emphasis on the "male power fantasy". There's already villains moving ahead anyway not counting new ones that appear after this movie.

I agree. I get the desire to stay away from fan service for the sake of fan service, but I also feel like Disney/JJ/Star Wars fans would love to see some direct interaction of all 3 (plus Chewie? C3PO? R2D2?) together at some point.

I kinda find that sad no interaction between Luke & Han, not possible.

Han dies. I don't think anyone really believes he doesn't. I also firmly believe that Luke only appears in flashback and at the very end. That makes sense within the context of everything we know about the story so far. So no, I don't think Han and Luke ever get to say goodbye. That's not really Han's style, anyway. I'm sure he tells Finn or Rey to pass along a message, like ,"When you find him, tell him he owes me one."
That would get me right in the feels.

I don't really see how that's treating the heroine like trash. Maybe she becomes an anti-heroine? It's not like her turning to the darkside has to be the equivalent of dying in childbirth, which is what you seem to be implying.

Anyway, I think I'd rather see that than another three movies rehashing the OT where our heroes are trying to bring Kylo Ren back to the lightside. Not that I'm really worried about that as there seem to be a number of rumors indicating he dies. If that's the case, it's what Kylo Ren's death sets in motion that I'm most interested in at this point.

Knowing Harrison Ford's at times disdain for SW, I can see how getting him to come back and do another movie would have to include:

1). Heavier development on Han's emotional character
2). Han's death, through sacrifice for the greater good in some way/ways

Ford is an actor, a leading man, and he's tired of Star Wars being about the supporting of the Luke Skywalker story...

http://nerdist.com/nerdist-podcast-harrison-ford/ (about 18 minutes in, published October 30, 2013 - less than 3 months before Abrams said that the script for Episode VII was finished in January 2014 and around the time that the casting call for "Rachel" and "Thomas" went out.)

Just a couple more musings in relation to today's news...

    1) I really think that JJ Abrams wants to have his own "I am your father" moment. Its what defines the OT, so that's why I am half expecting some twist, gut-punch of an ending. In fact, both Star Wars and The Empire Strikes Back had cliffhanger endings of sorts. Star Wars was less so because the fear it would be a commercial failure made it more self-contained, but even so a lot of talk centered around did Darth Vader live after Star Wars. Some kind of TFA cliffhanger is almost expected if they truly want to tap into OT nostalgia.

    2) What if they really did through fan service to the wind and not have the Big Three together one last time. What if, instead, each of the Big Three became the OT focal point of each ST movie? By that I mean, Han gets the spotlight in VII, Luke in VIII, and Leia in IX?

If anything my guess would be Luke in VIII and then all new in IX. No offense to Carrie Fisher, but she was sounding a little rough at celebrations. Just have a heard time imagining her acting is all that great right now at least not enough to be the focal point of a movie.

I feel like he went back and forth a lot in that last article - moreso than usual. It also was a pretty speculative piece.

The fanboy in me does want to see all 3 together on screen again and I was originally bent outta shape about these rumours. But the more I think about it, I'm becoming more and more ok if we don't. We still get to see all of them on screen separately again and I think that'll be more than cool enough. Honestly thought we'd never get any more films after the PT so this is all gravy. Also not reuniting them all kinda makes the OT their time together and that final shot of Jedi that much more important. Just like if JJ holds out with Luke till VIII... I think I can actually handle that!?!?!?!

Dark, I'll grant you that, but discouraging? Not to me. I'm a fan of the O3 and it sounds good to me.
It's definitely not how I've been imagining it either -- for close to 30 years. As a fan of the latter days of the now defunct-EU/Legends I was saddened that everything I came to love about it was rendered non-canon. That being said I am ready to accept the new "reality" of Star Wars. As a fan of the saga it's what I did for the PT, so I expect in a new way I'll do the same with the ST.
If these rumors are true, again not what I imagined, but I'll be okay with it. This is more about coming to love the new heroes and antagonists as we have those that came before. It sounds like we'll be getting a healthy dose of Han Solo in TFA, I hope we get the same for Luke in the next two films. If we don't get all three of the old Big 3 together one last time in TFA, I'll live with it. Hopefully the novels in between RotJ and TFA covers that for us.

3D version of the trailer is out and it's awesome!

For those who don't know how to view this in 3D you can go here:
    http://www.interleave-vr.com/youtube-proper-player.php?v=jruKwPpKIv0
This forces a flash version of the youtube player which allows to activate the 3D option. Once you activate the 3D option, go to settings and click on "no glasses".
You can then cross your eyes until both points are overlapped, hold it for a bit and your eyes should focus the image.

I'm going to disagree with the idea that Lucas was painted in a corner. He had a rough outline of a story that needed to be told in how a galaxy's greatest villain was once a good guy and how he related to Obiwan, the Jedi, and a clone war. Oh, and being a good pilot. That's all we know from the OT. It's pretty wide open in terms of story telling. You have 3 movies time to tell that story. Pretty simple story telling IMO.
