I think it's more likely that she becomes a grey character. Similar to luke. I dont know if you guys have noticed, it's a trend in pop culture nowadays. The moral choices, the impossible choices, the dilemmas, the fact that the world isn't black and white anymore. I think ultimately that is what saved the galaxy. Luke did what he did out of love, out of emotion, something jedis seemed to be against in the past.
I read a write up some time ago that argued that this trend actually happened after the vietnam war as well. It's a way of processing and criticizing our way of thinking during periods of war, we tend to be very one-sided. In a way it's a coping mechanism.
Anyway, this write up argued that the same thing is happening now that we are in a post-9/11 era. I personally love george lucas idea of exploring the grey areas. I can see Rey not fully embracing the "jedi" way.

I HAVE it (I'd like to think)!!!!!! I have a theory about where Luke is during TFA:

I just watched a past episode of SWR and something was said; While Ezra was in the temple on Lothal facing his trials and demons to get his kyber crystal, he was faced with apparitions, demons, and voices. Likewise, while Kanan waited for Ezra, he spoke with Yoda through the force about his fears, experiences, and strengths while also discussing his lack of training as he was surrounded by mummified Jedi that died waiting for their padawans to return from where Ezra went....and never did.

The Jedi Temple that they were in (regardless of it being Lothal) was saturated with the force, apparitions, memories, trials, and the voices of Jedi speaking through the force. When Kanan told Ezra: "There were more than 10,000 Jedi when I was your age", it made me believe that there is NO WAY that the Empire found them all after Order 66....NO way. Luke was not the last Jedi.

WHEN Kanan and Ezra left the temple and it retreated into the bedrock, Exra asked Kanan if they should perhaps use the temple as a base, and Kanan refused. Ezra then said "We don't know what's in there" as if to imply that they could explore more, and Kanan responded: "Yes I do.....the past."

My sudden theory is that Luke isn't some crazy hermit living in a cave or "Evil Castle" or even guarding a Sith tomb........he's holed up in an ancient Jedi temple learning the further ways of the force from the past because he feels as if he wasn't trained fully....insignificant, as if to be studying in the jedi archives on Coruscant...only more immersed IN the force, listening to it, speaking to it, learning from it.......to learn everything from it.

He's a monk on a pilgrimage...studying the ways of the Force in the universe.

And yet there has hardly been a peep of disapproval from SW about the possibility of Rey being the protagonist. Meanwhile moderators on this site (although more in the commentary section of the news part for the site) and the force.net message boards have to repeatedly delete daily racist remarks directed towards Finn/Boyega. Folks act as if there is this wall of resistance that a female protagonist have to face when in reality, for SW at least, there is a wall facing anyone who isn't white, which exposes an ugly side of SW fandom which took me by surprise. That's something I've never seen from the Star Trek fanbase to use as an example. Perhaps I'm underestimating how large a role sexism still plays in the minds of a portion of fanboys (I think it is more of an issue as so far comic book franchises are concerned), but I think in the case of TFA some of that sexism was temporarily "cured" when the fanboys considered the alternative.

One last thing.....if the situations were reversed and there had been no announcement that one character was clearly above the other in the new big three and Disney sent Boyega alone on a promotion tour with Kennedy, the Mary Sue types (feminist fans of genre movies and films) and female fans in general would understandably be ticked off that TPTB were slighting Ridley/Rey.

I think he's afraid of not being the right kind of Jedi and therefore sought out a place where he could feel it...perhaps interact with it, and learn from it. Something like seeing an instructional video on youtube for something you want to do....hearing a real voice telling you how it works and how it doesn't, instead of reading it off of an instruction sheet telling you how it's supposed to work.

Obsession is sometimes a jedi's weakness.

Yes. Anakin was obsessed with lots of things and lead him down the wrong path. The council was just as bad and just as blind.

The sins of our fathers I guess, the council was yes just as bad training him & I think not making him the rank of master set him down the path of the darkside, I just hope Luke has not made that same decision & living to regret.

Nope. It's not that at all, at least not for me. I would be just as happy if Finn fell to the darkside and Rey spent the next two films trying to bring him back to the lightside. I just don't want another rehash of the OT where our heroes are trying to redeem an already established villain we can't sympathize with. Perhaps they can make Kylo Ren sympathetic enough, but I doubt it. Were Nero or Khan-lite sympathetic? Not nearly enough to care whether or not they're redeemed. It'd be a lot easier with a character you just spent a whole movie believing was a hero.

I don't believe they will be trying to turn Kylo to the light side. The thing I do see about Rey is she is very innocent, but tough and independent. I think she may even be naive at first because she has never explored the world and has been stuck on a planet that is basically dead. So struggling to survive has made her very street smart but not experience smart. She may struggle between dark and light, but becomes the new Luke. I'm very interested in her journey.

Am I the only one that read about the Kylo Ren promo art or have I somehow skipped that conversation?

Once Kylo has started down the dark path his destiny has been fulfilled.

I think that would be a good situation for Rey to be in, which I think hasn't been explored in the movies before: Rey struggling between the light and dark sides.

Yesterday I saw Ultron and they didn't show us TFA second trailer, I was so sad... The movie wasn't that good too, I thought Ultron was scary and the hole movie he was a joke, but The Vision was great. I really don't want that guy doing any SW films.

its a breath of fresh air. She has a wonderful personality and from what we know of her character, she will be a brilliant protagonist. Im looking forward to Rey moreso than any other character within these films.
