It's really a shame we don't have some plant Jedi. Anti-flora bias?

If you look at the force awakens trailers now you can see the plot pretty much.

I think this is the same. We see them train on the island. Then Leia looking at a map. Then a battle.

We know kylo and his goons attack luke and Rey on the island. So it's pretty safe to say that space battle scene takes place over Ahch-to

The teaser had the battle over a greenish-blueish world. I don't think it's Jakku.

    The asteroid belt of D'Qar?

Hux in TFA "We have their location. We tracked their reconnaissance ship to the Ileenium system."

It's probably D'Qar, the First Order will attack the Resistance Base and their fleet (at the beginning of the movie?), they now know they are in the Illenium system.

Iam not sure the Resistance has that kind of fleet I feel it could be parts of whatever is left of the Republic fleet who join up with the Resistance. Iam also going to take a guess that LD character is not part of this & tries to take over all the remaining fleet hence her conflict with Leia & Poe.

Edit for spelling I really hate auto correct sometimes

I hope that the fight scenes on this movie are better than the force awakens. They were the worst of the films.

They wouldn't have such a similar title unless this movie has a lot of things in it making it jam packed

I rather enjoyed the fights in TFA, actually. I loved seeing a duel between three opponents at night on a forest planet covered in snow. We saw three of the next generation of Force users (or perhaps two) in an all-new environment, with a completely new dynamic in the form of Kylo's crossguard lightsaber. Episode IX, if not VIII, is bound to have a better duel (between more experienced Force users), but still, I thought it was pretty good.

I definitely see the New Jedi rising (none of this "everything will be grey/the Jedi will end" nonsense), but I don't see a third title having the name "Jedi" in it, lol. As is, we already can't say "Jedi" in reference to a Star Wars movie, without there being confusion :p

Anyway, going back a few pages (I just spent a lot of time catching up on the past like, dozen pages), that fake leak, at least in the first act, does seem to have come awfully close to predicting the first bit of the movie. It's not exactly impressive, but it is well done. That second act gave it away though, obviously, not having any meat on its bones. Personally, I'm most interested in seeing Luke and Rey get off the island/Ahch-To. I'm not sure they'd be left there for the whole movie, although I could potentially see that happening if we have an Empire situation where, instead of the student leaving, they stay and continue their training, into the beginning of the next film. Luke and Rey will either rejoin the Resistance (and regrouped Republic?) at the end of VIII, in preparation for the final battle, or at the beginning of IX.

I saw a theory saying that all the movie titles form a sentence. It could go like this "The force awakens the last jedi from the darkness" making episode 9 called From The Darkness. I think it's plausible. We'll see

First, that's some nice work to make such a strong case for the planets being the same using that asteroid belt and such a good choice of shots showing the color and clouds being similar. I don't recall anyone else make those points before.

However, I thought it was confirmed at SWC (I think at the TLJ panel) that the beginning of the movie (not necessarily the opening sequence) is the FO striking the Resistance base as they try to flee (one of many points that had people concerned about TLJ having too many elements from ESB). (RJ I think said something about them acting boldly in the beginning of TLJ). I could be wrong, but I thought the flight from D'Qar had been confirmed as being in the film

I mean, TFA shamelessly ripped off the Deathstar powering up to destroy the rebel base, so the FO knows where the Resistance is and it's established that a bunch of them get off the Starkiller before it blows up. And the Resistance doesn't immediately evacuate as far as we know(they are celebrating.....just like ANH...). I think since TLJ is going to begin at the time Rey, RJ is able to fill that plot hole. The end of ANH doesn't make any narrative sense, because the Deathstar would have reported to the Emperor where they were going and why. Vader would have had to signal for help after the Deathstar goes boom (Robot chicken's treatment of that detail is hysterical). Luke and Leia shouldn't have had time to go shopping and get all dolled up. Everyone should have been in a mad scramble to get the hell out of there as soon as the Deathstar popped like zit. Yeah, I know it's a movie and Lucas' ending while silly (them all giggling at each other is the weakest part of the entire OT).

RJ is able to resume every narrative thread from TFA at once: Finn healing, the Resistance fleeing immediately, the FO boldly counterattacking after the Resistance's Pyrrhic victory, KR going to Snoke, and most importantly the first conversation between Rey and Luke...There may not be a time jump of any significance in TLJ at any point (like more than a few days). He's starting all the threads at the same point as we left them in TFA since he had that Rey/Luke cliffhanger on his plate.

And again, I'm not trying to take away from your point and how you made it. Nice work matching those details up.

I respectfully disagree. Remember the ship that Leia shows up in at the ruins of Maz's castle? It was a troop transport that looked a lot like a Bwing, but just bigger and nowhere near as cool looking, lacking any real originality (insert JJ joke here). Those are the ships the Xwings and Tie's are flying around above D'Qar in TLJ teaser. I think that just like those clown shoe/hoagie transports that were leaving Hoth, these are the main way the Resistance is fleeing D'Qar. I have to say it makes sense, they are more mobile, more nimble, heavier armed, and cheaper than those enormous things the Rebel Alliance had. They were already established in TFA, and none were lost in the attack on Starkiller, so they can be loaded immediately and quickly bug out.

These TLJ scenes show TIEs, the TFA Resistance transports, and Xwings. All are established to be fairly plentiful on the respective sides at the end of TFA. I think someone spotted an Awing in one of the D'Qar escape shots and there was one in the hangar on the ship where Poe's Xwing bites it, and that seems to be battle cruiser/Mon Cal ship/etc. I agree that those could be a surviving part of the NR fleet, but while TFA implied the Resistance was tiny and limited to one base, I think RJ can easily wiggle out of that implication.

The US didn't have a big military or particularly large navy in 1941,and most of the Pacific Fleet had holed up at Pearl Harbor, all three aircraft carriers were away from Pearl at the time. We now know the Resistance's military arm doesn't only exist only at D'Qar, maybe they've called in other units who were occupied elsewhere (perhaps picking up those shiny new A-wings and more black Xwings from the manufacturer when Starkiller struck the first time.

We could both be right and it's some sort of last minute defection or failsafe plan (like how one Cabinet member watches the State of the Union from the White House or other secure remote location).
